Michael Riedel reports in the New York Post this morning that Broadway Producer Jeffrey Richards will be producing a Broadway transfer of The Public's Merchant of Venice, which will play Shakespeare in the Park at the Delacorte this summer starring Al Pacino. Richards has suffered a mostly disappointing 2010 so far, being the leading force behind this season's All About Me and Enron, both of which only lasted a mere few weeks on Broadway. Richards and his producing partner, Jerry Frankel are, however, also behind the successful Race, which has already recouped on Broadway.

The Donmar Warehouse production of RED, a new American play by John Logan about the master of twentieth century abstract impressionism, Mark Rothko, opened on Broadway last night, Thursday, April 1 for a limited 15-week engagement at the Golden Theatre. The Public Theater, Tony Kushner and Jeanine Tesori presented COURAGE IN CONCERT, a one-night-only benefit concert reuniting Kevin Kline, Jenifer Lewis, Austin Pendleton, Meryl Streep and Frederick Weller for an evening of songs from the Public Theater's 2006 Shakespeare in the Park production of Brecht's masterpiece, Mother Courage and Her Children. The benefit was performed at The Public Theater on Monday, October 19th with all proceeds benefiting American Jewish World Service and Partners In Health.
