The Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall announces its 2018-2019 season. Filled with outstanding classical performances, top-notch comedians, Sarasota premieres, returning crowd-favorites, and a Broadway lineup like never before, the 2018-2019 season has something for everyone and is set to be the best one yet!

Linda Eder's career has had the kind of variety many performers would envy: everything from Broadway to solo albums to concert halls. If You See Me, her latest release, is her seventeenth solo album, which itself is an applause-worthy feat. The album itself is mostly a greatest-hits journey through theatre history, from Gershwin to Sondheim and plenty of others in between. Although some of the tracks don't quite hit the mark, others are genuinely wonderful.

Linda Eder continues her 2018 run at Feinstein's/54 Below Nightclub. She began it in May - runs it July 26, 27, 28 - and finishes it September 12, 13, 14 in the NYC show room. Celebrating the release of her new CD 'If You See Me' - a celebration of Broadway & Standards - this show highlights the set list from the disc as well as some tried & true Eder fan favorites.

Tony, Emmy, and Golden Globe nominee Matthew Morrison (GLEE, HAIRSPRAY, THE LIGHT IN THE PIAZZA) and Olivier-winning Laura Michelle Kelly (who originated the title role in MARY POPPINS) were the special guests at a splendid Mormon Tabernacle Choir tribute to Rodgers and Hammerstein, also featuring the Orchestra at Temple Square and narrated by Oscar "Andy" Hammerstein III.   The one-of-a-kind event was presented free of charge as a gift to the community Friday, July 20 and Saturday, July 21, 2018 at the impressive 21,000-seat Conference Center.  It is available to view online in full (in five languages) at www.mormontabernaclechoir.org.

The Playhouse has an exciting new season of touring shows and one nighters. It kicks off with SPAMALOT. Aisle Say has seen this a few times and am looking forward once again.

Footloose is based off of a story about Ren McCormack moving to a small town where the local government has banned dancing and rock music, and how he leads his classmates around the law and Reverend Shaw Moore to have a real senior prom. The music is by Tom Snow(among others), the lyrics by Dean Pitchford (with additional lyrics by Kenny Loggins), and the book by Pitchford and Walter Bobbie.

Next week, FEINSTEIN'S/54 BELOW, Broadway's Supper Club & Private Event Destination, presents some of the brightest stars from Broadway, cabaret, jazz, and beyond.

On May 14th at the National Arts Club (8p-10p), members and guests will 'get into something red' when the new, original musical - 'THE GIRL IN THE RED DRESS' - has its next reading.

The New York based vocalist has been receiving 'Rave' reviews for her powerful interpretations of the songs written by the legendary team of Alan & Marilyn Bergman. From being called 'The Miracle at Feinstein's,' to being compared to both Streisand and Linda Eder, Marieann's reputation as one of the best interpreters of song working today, continues to soar!  

I like, many musical theatre nerds get excited every time a world premiere musical comes to town. Arena Stage is providing that fix right now with an Alaskan-rooted premiere of Snow Child. Today's subjects Christiane Noll and Matt Bogart are currently living their theatre lives as the leads in this production, which runs through May 20, 2018.

A soulful retelling of L. Frank Baum's beloved The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, The Wiz combines fairy-tale glamour with street smarts to make a classic fantasy sparkle for today.  And our directors and choreographer will bring a blast of New Orleans Creole magic to this production!  Winner of seven Tony Awards, including Best Musical and Best Score, The Wiz ingeniously mixes rock, gospel, soul, and jazz, and features hits like 'Ease on Down the Road,' 'A Brand New Day,' and 'Home.'

Producer Rick Murray will present the 2018 Cabaret Series in Provincetown, MA this summer at The Crown & Anchor's Paramount Theatre, Cabaret Room, and Town Hall Auditorium.  Tickets are now on sale for the Series, in which an impressive list of award-winning stars will be performing live in full concerts.  Following up on last summer's smash hit season, the 2018 Cabaret Series will include the talents of comedian Paula Poundstone as well as Broadway stars Lucie Arnaz (They're Playing Our Song, Pippin), Telly Leung (Aladdin, Allegiance), Anthony Rapp (Rent, If/Then), Linda Eder (Jekyll and Hyde), and Emmy Award winners Leslie Jordan (Will and Grace) and Bruce Vilanch.

The composer who had three shows running simultaneously on Broadway was on stage at The Broadway at Birdland concert series last night and of course Broadwayworld was also there for the special evening.

Audiences have started to listen again at Studio 54. That's because Children of a Lesser God is back, and it officially opened last night on Broadway. Directed by Tony Award winner Kenny Leon, Children of a Lesser God stars film and television favorite Joshua Jackson and breakout star Lauren Ridloff, alongside Emmy Award winner and Golden Globe Award winner Anthony Edwards, Drama Desk Award nominee and Obie Award winner Kecia Lewis, Julee Cerda, Treshelle Edmond, and John McGinty. The Schimmel Centerpresents Grammy Award winning singer-songwriter and guitaristTom Chapin in a collaborative performance with his daughters, Lily and Abigail—The Chapin Sisters—on Friday, April 20, 2018 at 7:30 p.m. The concert features original and traditional songs by the acclaimed family roots group including “Cat's In The Cradle,” “Remember When The Music,” and “Circle” by Harry Chapin, as well as “Pass The Music On,” and “This Pretty Planet” by Tom Chapin.
