TAO Dance Theater's 4 and U.S. Premiere of 5 Open at the NYU Skirball Center for the Performing Arts, Tonight

TAO Dance Theater's 4 and the U.S. Premiere of 5 will open tonight, Thursday, February 20 at 8PM at the second annual Visions + Voices Global Performance Series at NYU Skirball Center for the Performing Arts. TAO Dance Theater runs from Thursday, February 20 through Sunday, February 23. This year's Visions + Voices focuses on China and will run from February 20–May 12, 2014.

DAS RHEINGOLD, A COFFIN IN EGYPT and More Set for Spring 2014 at Houston Grand Opera

The new year has already brought notable success for Houston Grand Opera (HGO), where the hotly anticipated American premiere of the long-lost Holocaust opera The Passenger-hailed by the Associated Press as 'the latest coup for a company known for producing new works'-took the national and local press by storm, and where the company's Rigoletto revival was pronounced 'glorious' (Theater Jones). These accolades come at an exciting time for the company, which continues this season's extraordinary line-up with the launch of the first American presentation of a visionary and groundbreaking treatment of Das Rheingold by La Fura dels Baus; the world premiere of Ricky Ian Gordon's A Coffin in Egypt, named one of the twelve 'must-see opera events of the season' (Opera News); a new HGO production of Carmen from Broadway sensation Rob Ashford; and Stephen Sondheim's A Little Night Music, which boasts designs by fashion icon Isaac Mizrahi.

The Miller Theatre's Composer Portraits Series Presents UNSUK CHIN Featuring Ensemble Signal, 3/13

Miller Theatre at Columbia University School of the Arts continues the 2013-14 Composer Portraits series with Unsuk Chin featuring Ensemble Signal: Brad Lubman, conductor, Rachel Calloway,mezzo-soprano, Oliver Hagen, piano, Bill Solomon, percussion, and Ning Yu, piano. The show is Thursday, March 13, 2014, 8:00 p.m. at the Miller Theatre (2960 Broadway at 116th Street) and Tickets are $20-$30 and for Students with valid ID they are $12-$18.

Concert Artists Guild Presents Rising Cellist Jay Campbell and Premiere of Three New Works, 3/10

Concert Artists Guild presents the adventurous young cellist Jay Campbell, First Prize Winner of the 2012 CAG Victor Elmaleh Competition, on its Concerts in New York series on Monday evening, March 10th at 7:30 p.m. at Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall. Meredith Monk Announces National and International Performances, Releases, Residencies

Five decades later and still blazing new trails, Meredith Monk began preparation for her Fiftieth Year celebration with the January 29 announcement of her appointment as the 2014/15 Richard and Barbara Debs Composer's Chair at Carnegie Hall. Her spring calendar, a prelude to her 50th anniversary events, is crammed with New York, national and international performances, record and CD releases, workshops and residencies designed to showcase Monk's groundbreaking work past and present.

Gotham Chamber Opera Now Accepting Applications for Catherine Doctorow Prize for Music

Gotham Chamber Opera and the Jarvis & Constance Doctorow Family Foundation announce the inaugural cycle of the Catherine Doctorow Prize for Music, a competitive prize awarded to a composer to support the creation of a new work for voice and chamber ensemble. Gotham Chamber Opera Announces Fourth Round of Composer in Residence Program

Gotham Chamber Opera, in collaboration with Opera Philadelphia and Music-Theatre Group in New York, is proud to offer a fourth track in the nation's first comprehensive, operatic Composer in Residence program. Funded by The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, the program provides professional development opportunities for today's most promising opera composers, selected on a competitive basis. MTWorks Gives Voice to Wildlife Victims of Gulf Oil Spill in DARK WATER

MANHATTAN THEATRE WORKS (MTWorks), in association with the Theater Series at the 14th Street Y, are pleased to announce the world premiere of MTWorks Co-Artistic Director David Stallings' DARK WATER, directed by Heather Cohn (FringeNYC Excellence Award for Outstanding Direction for Other Bodies). In DARK WATER, the swampland of Louisiana is hit with the most massive oil spill known to history. Barnacle, an old sea turtle, fights against man's destruction, nature's wrath, and her enemies of the wild to save her children trapped in the spill. Poetry, allegory, music, puppetry and movement create this magical world as the animals of Louisiana face the ultimate threat to their lives.
