CUNY Presents The World Premiere Of Dzul Dance, Rites of Passage, 9/24

CUNY Dance Initiative and John Jay College present the World Premiere of Rites of Passage on September 24, 2016 at 8pm at the Gerald W. Lynch Theater, 524 W. 59th Street, NYC, in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month.   Admission is $30 ($25 for CUNY students, faculty and staff and $10 for John Jay College students, faculty and staff). Guerilla Opera Announces 10th Season - World Premieres, Live Streams and More!

Guerilla Opera is all fun and games in their 10th anniversary season, featuring a new production of Loose, Wet, Perforated with music and libretto by Nicholas P. Vines in September 2016 and the world premiere of Play, the Game or Game, the Play with music and libretto by composer and theater artist Rick Burkhardt in May 2017.

New York Philharmonic Announces Free Insights at the Atrium Events

The New York Philharmonic has announced the 2016-17 season's Insights at the Atrium series, free events exploring themes of the Philharmonic's concert season through multimedia lectures, conversations, and panel discussions. Expanding to eight events this season, Insights at the Atrium has gained in popularity since its inception in 2011, helping thousands of audience members delve more deeply into the music, musicians, and ideas featured in the Philharmonic's season through a dynamic and accessible forum. All events are held at the David Rubenstein Atrium at Lincoln Center and begin at 7:30 p.m.

Gary Hanson Named Interim CEO of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra

The Toronto Symphony Orchestra (TSO) announces that Gary Hanson has been named Interim CEO of the TSO. Gary Hanson, a Toronto native, was chief executive of The Cleveland Orchestra until his retirement at the end of 2015. Mr. Hanson was appointed at a special meeting of the TSO Board of Directors, on Wednesday, August 17, and will begin his term on September 26, 2016. He will serve in the role for up to two years.

America Opera Projects to Present COMPOSERS & THE VOICE: SIX SCENES, 9/30

This fall, contemporary opera producer AMERICAN OPERA PROJECTS (AOP) will present COMPOSERS & THE VOICE: SIX SCENES 2016, a concert of opera scenes from ten artists emerging in the world of contemporary opera. Audiences will get a first look at six wildly different new works that range from imagining moments in the lives of famous people such as Sigmund Freud and Mabel Dodge Luhan or events taking place in a spaceship, an asylum, and a uterus. The composers Matthew Barnson, Carlos R. Carrillo, Nell Shaw Cohen, Marc LeMay, Cecilia Livingston, and Sky Macklay and librettists Edward Einhorn, Duncan McFarlane, Emily Roller, and Mark Sonnenblick, were chosen by AOP to spend a year creating new works in its bi-annual fellowship program Composers & the Voice (C&V).

Ballet Hispanico & More Featured in Lincoln Center at the Movies Encore

Coming to more than 115 theaters nationwide today, August 2 at 7:00 pm (local time) is Ballet Hispanico, led by Artistic Director Eduardo Vilaro, with two audience favorites: CARMEN.maquia, an electrifying contemporary take on Bizet's passionate opera choreographed by Spaniard Gustavo Ramirez Sansano, and Club Havana, a virtuosic re-imagining of a sizzling nightclub by Cuban-born choreographer Pedro Ruiz. The film will include special behind-the-scenes interviews with the dancers and a glimpse of the company's rehearsals.

The Cleveland Orchestra performs 27th Annual Free Star-Spangled Spectacular Concert

The Cleveland Orchestra, led by guest conductor Loras John Schissel, performs the 27th annual free community concert in downtown Cleveland: The Star-Spangled Spectacular brought to you byCuyahoga Arts & Culture and sponsored by KeyBank. This year's concert returns to Public Square and is part of the RNC Thank You Cleveland Weekend of events.  The concert begins at 9:00 p.m.and ends at approximately 10:15 p.m., followed by fireworks (weather permitting).
