Blackhurst, Stritch, Hale and More Come to Metropolitan Room This Fall

A wave of cocktail culture from the West Coast is about to pour through the Metropolitan Room's doors as Terese Genecco, Russ Lorenson and Corky Hale come to town, while Baby Jane Dexter and a number of other local notables like Klea Blackhurst and Billy Stritch stand up for the Eastern seaboard.

Corky Hale to Judge Annual World Soundtrack Awards

Corky Hale, renowned Jazz pianist, harpist and vocalist, will be a judge for the 8th Annual World Soundtrack Awards, sponsored by the World Soundtrack Academy as the closing event of the 35th Annual Ghent Film Festival, to be held in Ghent, Belgium from October 7 - 18, 2008

'Tribute to Sammy Cahn' at Wilshire 9/21

The Wilshire Theatre Beverly Hills, 8440 Wilshire Boulevard; Beverly Hills, CA 90211, will open its doors to the general public on Sunday, September 21, 2008, after being closed for several months for completion of Phase I of the historic venue's Revitalization Project. Corky Hale Productions will present a star-studded musical event, entitled, 'It's Magic! A Tribute to Sammy Cahn' celebrating the life and lyrics of one of Hollywood's greatest Academy Awardâ-winning songwriters.

TDF/Irene Sharaff Awards Announced

Legendary designers John Conklin and Robert Fletcher are among the recipients of the 2008 TDF/Irene Sharaff Awards. For his achievements as both a costume and set designer, John Conklin will receive the TDF/Irene Sharaff Awards' special Robert L. B. Tobin Award for Lifetime Achievement in Theatrical Design. Acclaimed costume designer Robert Fletcher, who also produced, performed and designed sets, will receive the 2008 TDF/Irene Sharaff Lifetime Achievement Award at a ceremony on Friday, March 28, at the Hudson Theatre in New York City.

Seattle Review: Pippin

Though it features a solid Stephen Schwartz score, the principal success of Pippin was the dynamic staging provided by Bob Fosse. Fosse was able to elevate Roger O. Hirson's paper-thin book far above its mediocrity with inventive movement and a heavy dose of style. 5th Avenue Theatre's gaudy new staging, under the direction of David Armstrong, is further proof that Fosse shows are not to be tinkered with. Much like the recent revival of Sweet Charity, this production suffers greatly when Fosse's influence is removed.
