Photo Flash: ROOMS: A Rock Romance

Van Hill Entertainment is proud to announce that the Off-Broadway premiere of ROOMS a rock romance, starring Leslie Kritzer and Doug Kreeger, will begin performances on Friday February 27th at New World Stages/Stage 2 (340 West 50th Street). Opening Night is set for Monday March 16th (7 PM). ROOMS a rock romance has music and lyrics by Paul Scott Goodman (Bright Lights Big City) and book by Goodman and Miriam Gordon, and will be directed by Scott Schwartz (Golda's Balcony, Bat Boy: The Musical, tick, tick... BOOM!, Jane Eyre).

ROOMS Rock Romance Garners 5 Helen Hayes Nominations

Van Hill Entertainment is proud to announce that ROOMS a rock romance garnered five nominations from the prestigious Helen Hayes Awards, in recognition of their world premiere engagement at MetroStage in Washington, DC. Nominations were presented to ROOMS a rock romance in the following categories: Outstanding Director - Resident Musical, Outstanding Lead Actor - Resident Musical, Outstanding Lead Actress, Resident Musical, the Charles MacArthur Award for Outstanding New Play or Musical, and Outstanding Resident Musical.

The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts celebrates the 12th Anniversary of the Millennium Stage on January 31, 2009 with 'Broadway Today'-a star-studded, free concert, produced by Michael A. Kerker and presented in cooperation with ASCAP, in the Opera House as a part of the Center's season-long artistic initiative Broadway: The Third Generation. With the composers at the piano, original cast members and Broadway stars perform signature songs that made these artists household names. Free tickets are required. Tickets will be given away one (1) per person in line in front of the Opera House beginning at 4 p.m. on Saturday, January 31, 2009.

Gemignani Joins MTC's 'AN INTIMATE NIGHT' Benefit 1/26

Drama Desk-nominated Alexander Gemignani will join the previously-announced James Naughton, Renee Elise Goldsberry, and Leslie Kritzer at the Manhattan Theatre Club's annual Winter Benefit: An Intimate Night, on Monday, 26, 2009 at the Rainbow Room (30 Rockefeller Plaza, 65th Floor). Hosted by Naughton, this cabaret-style show features the talents of three of the most talented fresh faces on Broadway. Gemignani was last seen on Broadway in the Sunday in the Park with George revival. Prior to that, he was in Les Miserables and Sweeney Todd, where he was nominated for a Drama Desk for his role as 'Beadle Bamford.' He recently played the starring role of 'Addison Mizner' in the Sondheim-Weidman musical Road Show at the Public Theatre.

SPEKTOR and lyrics by JUNE SIEGEL, played at the TRIAD THEATER on Wednesday, January 7, Wednesday, January 14, and has one last performance Tuesday, January 20 at 8 p.m. KAREN CARPENTER directs. The first funny feminist musical revue for men and women, THE HOUSEWIVES' CANTATA uses a cabaret style ? la 'Jacques Brel...' to tell the story of three women, one of whom goes from housewife to becoming the first woman President of the United States. Songs featured in the revue include 'What is a woman?,' 'Dirty dish rag,' 'Guinevere among the grapefruit peels,' 'Adultery waltz' and 'Divorce lament.' The Off-Broadway production produced by Cheryl Crawford was praised as 'A sprightly songfest' by The New York Times. Reviews of the Cast Album of THE HOUSEWIVES' CANTATA, available from Original Cast Records, have praised the songs' 'trenchant lyrics' and the music's 'nice balance between the touching and the tart' (The Music Connoisseur).

The Zipper Factory Theater (336 West 37th Street) is pleased to present MONUMENTAL EVENING WITH MILLER & TYSEN, featuring the songs of Chris Miller and Nathan Tysen performed by a 'newly appointed cabinet of musical theatre bad asses' on Monday, January 19 at 8:00 p.m. Chris (music) and Nathan (lyrics) will debut new material from their upcoming commissions at Lincoln Center and Playwrights Horizons, plus songs from The Burnt Part Boys (opening this season in the Vineyard Theatre's lab series).
