The Off-Broadway show, Liberty: A Monumental New Musical, which opened on July 4, will end its current run on July 24 and plans to resume performances this fall.

Broadway's 40 theatres aren't the only places to catch performances from your favorite stars! Well after Broadway orchestras begin their overtures, ensemble members take their dance breaks, and performers belt out their eleven o'clock numbers, the party continues at various cabaret venues throughout New York City.  From May 14 to 31 (rescheduled from May 7 to 24), The Morningside Players will present 'Fences,' the Pulitzer and Tony Award-winning play by August Wilson, directed by Arthur French, a stalwart veteran of Broadway and Off-Broadway who is also a prime interpreter of August Wilson's plays.

Broadway Records announced today that the Original Off-Broadway Cast Recording of Liberty: A Monumental New Musical, will be released on CD and digitally on Tuesday, May 5th. Harper announced today that 14 year-old actress, Abigail Shapiro (How the Grinch Stole Christmas) will play the title role in Liberty: A Monumental New Musical. Directed by Evan Pappas, the new musical will play a limited seven-week engagement at Theatre 80 (80 St. Marks Place) Tuesday, October 14 through Tuesday, November 25, 2014. Tickets are now on sale.

In the 1970s, the sexual revolution had finally given women the freedom to fully explore their natures. How women of various ages reconciled this freedom with their personal ethics is the subject of Dana Leslie Goldstein's newest play, 'Daughters of the Sexual Revolution,' which will be presented September 18 to October 11 by the WorkShop Theater Company, 312 West 36th Street. WorkShop Theater Company, the New York Innovative Theatre Award-winning and Drama Desk Award-nominated theater company focused on developing new work, has announced its 21st season, featuring Dana Leslie Goldstein's drama Daughters of the Sexual Revolution; Food, Glorious Food: a feast of new plays, a food-themed short play festival; and a new mission.

On Her Shoulders will present a FREE staged reading of three short plays by women of The Provincetown Players on Wednesday, May 21: The Widow's View by Alice Rostetter (1919), The Rescue by Rita Creighton Smith (1918) and Aria da Capo by Edna St. Vincent Millay (1919.) Elysa Marden directs; Shana Komitee is dramaturg. Doors open at 6:30pm. The Play in Context, which situates the script in its historical time and place, kicks off the evening at 6:45pm. WorkShop Theater Company, and Artistic Director Scott C. Sickles, has announced its 20th season, celebrating its diverse history. WorkShop's Main Stage Season begins in September with the world premiere of Lou-Lou Igbokwe's Iyom; November marks the return of Philip Hall's highly acclaimed musical adaptation of Mark Twain's Life on the Mississippi; and the spring will bring director Ryan Lee's vision of Shakespeare's challenging classic, The Winter's Tale. In addition to developing new plays and reviving classics, WorkShop has broadened its scope in the past few years by fostering new short plays, musicals, and children's theater. This fall, WorkShop welcomes a new Managing Director, Joseph Giardina, who is also an arts education consultant for the New York City Department of Education's (NYCDOE) Office of the Arts and Special Projects.
