Performance Space 122 Presents Reid Farrington's GIN & IT 4/24-5/9

Reid Farrington returns to Performance Space 122 with Gin & 'It.' His principle source is Alfred Hitchcock's film Rope, a film based the Leopold and Loeb murder. As he did with THE PASSION PROJECT, Farrington collaborates with film historians and archivists to bring a classic film to life on stage with his own boundary-pushing melding of video and live drama.

Diversionary Theatre Present 'Dance/Theatre', 4/22-4/25

Five local choreographers will each create a new dance work for Diversionary Theatre's special event, Dance/Theatre, with four performances, April 22-25, 2010. The project was conceived by Peter G. Kalivas of The PGK Project in conjunction with Diversionary's Executive & Artistic Director Dan Kirsch. This is the second year of what will become an annual event. Dance/Theatre merges theatre and dance audiences while presenting universal stories through dance inspired by productions previously staged by Diversionary. 'We are very excited about this collaboration,' said Kirsch. 'Diversionary has a long history of creating new work, and this project is a great way to connect to the dance community.'

Hayley Atwell Joins Evans and Stan in 'Captain America' Film

Joining the previously announced Chris Evans and Sebastian Stan in the upcoming ‘Captain America' film will be Hayley Atwell, set to play Peggy Carter. The film, based on the Marvel comic book superhero, will be directed by Joe Johnston.

Greenfield Prize Celebration and Award Presentation Held 4/15

Thursday, April 15, 2010 is the date for the third presentation of the annual Greenfield Prize, a $30,000 commission for a new work of art in a designated category. This year's award goes to Sanford Biggers, the first visual artist to receive the Greenfield Prize since its inception in 2008.

The Hypocrites Present CABARET at the Chicago DCA Storefront Theater 4/15-5/23

Two River Theater Company Ends Limited Engagement of ALL TOO HUMAN..., 4/11

Clarence Darrow, America's most famous trial lawyer, defended the rights of sinners. The fact that he was no saint himself, just adds to his renown. In All Too Human: An Evening with Clarence Darrow, Henry Miller-a trial lawyer himself-explores (among others) 'The Scopes Monkey Trial' , where Darrow defended a teacher's right to teach the theory of evolution in a school in Tennessee; as well as the controversial trial of 'Leopold and Loeb'. Miller's one-act show gives us a fresh insight into why this giant of jurisprudence inspired generations, and left such an indelible mark on the nation. The production will end its run at Two River Theater Company on April 11th.

Philadelphia Orchestra to Perform 'The Rite of Spring', 4/8

The year was 1913 and headlines like the ones above may well have been splashed across Parisian newspapers covering the premiere of Igor Stravinsky's controversial new ballet, The Rite of Spring. The piece-with its dissonant sounds and shocking themes of human sacrifice-stunned audiences, sending them into frenzied riots. Within a decade this groundbreaking work would be heard in America in its U.S. premiere by The Philadelphia Orchestra under Leopold Stokowski.

Florida Studio Theatre Announces the 2010 Young Playwright Winners

As part of the Sarasota Festival of New Plays; UNDER SIX begins this week at Florida Studio Theatre. A collection of winning plays from students sixth grade and under will be fully staged with numerous productions over the course of six weeks.
