Northlight Theatre to Close Season with THE GOSPEL ACCORDING TO THOMAS JEFFERSON

Northlight Theatre concludes its 41st Season, under the direction of Artistic Director BJ Jones and Executive Director Timothy J. Evans, with The Gospel According to Thomas Jefferson, Charles Dickens and Count Leo Tolstoy: Discord by Scott Carter. Discord, directed by Kimberly Senior, runs May 6 - June 12, 2016 at Northlight Theatre, 9501 Skokie Blvd in Skokie.

BWW Feature: From Page to Stage, Broadway Draws Inspiration From Literary Classics

In a time where source material is a controversial topic, many people state that there have been a lack of original ideas for Broadway shows. Recently, movie adaptations have been the newest trend to hit the stage. However, adaptations are certainly not a new phenomenon. Since the beginning of what is generally considered the traditional Broadway musical, shows have been adapted from other works. Classic shows such as SHOW BOAT and THE KING AND I found the origins to their stories in novels. More recently, novel adaptations have found success with THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA, and the 2014 Tony Winner for Best Musical, A GENTLEMAN'S GUIDE TO LOVE AND MURDER.

BWW Review: OF MICE AND MEN Leaves You Breathless, Speechless

John Steinbeck's classic Of Mice and Men, a co-production with Milwaukee Repertory Theater and winner of the NY Drama Critics Circle Award for Best Play, continues the Arizona Theatre Company 2015-2016 season. It tells the emotional story of two migrant ranch workers, George (Jonathan Wainwright) and Lennie (Scott Greer), both of whom are trying to achieve their dream of settling down on their own farm, living off the fat of the land, and tending to the softest of rabbits.

The Gospel According to Thomas Jefferson, Charles Dickens and Count Leo Tolstoy: Discord, by Scott Carter and directed by Kimberly Senior, runs May 6 - June 12, 2016 at Northlight Theatre, 9501 Skokie Blvd in Skokie. The press opening is scheduled for Friday, May 13 at 8 pm.

FLIGHT FROM PARADISE by Pavel Basinsky is Released

Summary: In this book, popular Russian writer and reporter Pavel Basinsky delves into the archives and presents his interpretation of the situation prior to Leo Tolstoy's mysterious disappearance. Basinsky follows Leo Tolstoy throughout his life, right up to his final moments. Reconstructing the story from historical documents, he creates a visionary account of the events that led to the Tolstoys' family drama. 'Flight from Paradise' will be of particular interest to international researchers studying Leo Tolstoy's life and works, and is highly recommended to a broader audience worldwide. About the Author: Pavel Basinsky is a well-known Russian writer and literary critic. He is a member of the Union of Russian Writers and the Academy of Russian contemporary literature. He is also an active member of the permanent jury for the Solzhenitsyn award. Basinsky was born in 1961 in Frolovo, in the Volgograd region. In 1986 he graduated from the Literary Institute (Department of literary criticism), then applied for a PhD there and wrote a thesis on Gorky and Nietzsche. Since 1981, Pavel Basinsky has had works of literary criticism published in various magazines. He currently teaches at the Literary Institute, works as an editor at Rossiyskaya Gazeta and is a member of the jury for the Yasnaya Polyana literary award. Independent Shakespeare Co.'s New Works Reading Series Continues with IAMBIC LAB

Independent Shakespeare Co. (ISC), presenters of the Griffith Park Free Shakespeare Festival and recipients of the 2015 Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle Margaret Harford Award for sustained excellence in theater, announce the debut of a new works reading series, iambic lab, presented Friday, February 12 and Saturday, February 13 at 7:30pm and Sunday, February 14 at 2pm at Independent Studio in the Atwater Crossing Arts + Innovation Complex, 3191 Casitas Ave., #168 in Atwater Village.

Arizona Theatre Company to Present FENCES, 2/11-28

Arizona Theatre Company celebrates the new year with a great American classic in August Wilson's stunning, Pulitzer-Prize winning play, Fences. A vivid, heartfelt exploration of the African-American experience set in the 1950's, the story remains strikingly relevant today.  Performances begin at the Herberger Theater Center, 222 E. SISSYBOY to Open 2/12 at NoHo Arts Center

The multi award-winning NoHo Arts Center Ensemble (NoHo ACE) is thrilled to present a world premiere play, SissyBoy, written and performed by James Mellon and directed by Kevin Bailey. SissyBoy will begin previews on Friday, February 5 at 8pm; will open on Friday, February 12 at 8pm and run for eleven performances through Sunday, March 6, 2016 at the NoHo Arts Center, 11136 Magnolia Blvd. (at Lankershim Blvd.) in North Hollywood.

Northlight Theatre Announces Final Casting for 41st Season

Northlight Theatre, under the direction of Artistic Director BJ Jones and Executive Director Timothy J. Evans, announces casting for the final productions of its 41st Season.  The season continues with Tony nominated Mothers and Sons, written by Terrence McNally and directed by Steve Scott. The cast includes Cindy Gold (Katharine Gerard), Ben Miller (Bud Ogden-Porter), Jeff Parker (Cal Porter) and Ben Sprunger (Wil Ogden).
