Hamingson) will present staged readings of 12 new plays by the inaugural class of the Emerging Writers Group, an annual program that targets playwrights at the earliest stages of their careers and nurtures their artistic growth by providing necessary resources and support.

Today the band announced plans to bring that explosive album to the stage by collaborating with Michael Mayer, renowned director of Spring Awakening, which grabbed eight Tony Awards including Best Director and Best Musical in 2007.

Berkeley Rep Announces Its 2009/10 Season

Today, even as it celebrates sending another show to Broadway, Berkeley Repertory Theatre announced a new season of adventurous plays for local theatre lovers. Tony Taccone, artistic director of the Tony Award-winning company, revealed five bold shows selected for the upcoming year. His ambitious agenda for the 2009/10 season includes three world premieres: a compelling script commissioned from Naomi Iizuka, a captivating new collaboration from Lisa Kron and Leigh Silverman, and the debut of a beautiful musical from Matthew Sweet and Todd Almond. The Theatre?s 42nd season also includes a West Coast premiere by Tony Kushner, the Bay Area?s introduction to Aurélia?s Oratorio, and two plays to be named at a later date. Best of all, the cost of a subscription to Berkeley Rep will not increase this year, meaning that some seats for these shows can be snatched up at the 1998 price!

In Fayetteville, North Carolina, sits one of the South's largest military bases. Practically everybody's somebody is over there. Flight Attendant Abby has finally agreed to settle down with her thoroughly unmilitary fianc?. Her sister Sara is thrilled to have her own husband back home once and for all. But when a mysterious Marine shows up on Abby's red-eye flight, all bets on stability are off. Oohrah! asks how we can remain true to ourselves when the pressures of domestic and military expectation threaten all.

Houdyshell Is 'CORALINE' for MCC, Previews Begin 5/7

The New York Times is reporting that, MCC Theater has announced a bit of unconventional casting news for its stage adaptation of the graphic novel by Neil Gaiman. Jayne Houdyshell, 55, who was nominated for a Tony award for her performance in 'Well,' will play the 9-year-old Coraline according to the Times' Arts, Briefly column.

SSDC 2008 Executive Board Election Results Are In

The results of the 2008 Executive Board Election were announced on November 17, 2008 at the annual SSDC membership meeting in New York. Joining the leadership of President Karen Azenberg, Executive Vice President Larry Carpenter and Treasurer Doug Hughes are director/choreographer Kathleen Marshall as Vice President and director Mary B. Robinson as Secretary. New members Joe Calarco and Leigh Silverman joined the Board, along with incumbents Rob Ashford, Edie Cowan, Ethan McSweeny, Tom Moore, Lisa Peterson, Daniel Sullivan, David Warren and Chay Yew. After twelve years of valued service, Mark Brokaw and Sheldon Epps rotated off the Board.
