The Laguna Playhouse presents the popular and critically acclaimed final movement of Hershey Felder's 'Composer Sonata' trilogy, Hershey Felder AS George Gershwin ALONE, a musical play directed by Joel Zwick with Music and Lyrics by George Gershwin and Ira Gershwin and a book by Hershey Felder. George Gershwin ALONE runs January 12 through February 21, 2010. The 'Composer Sonata' comprises BEETHOVEN, AS I KNEW HIM; MONSIEUR CHOPIN; and this final movement, George Gershwin ALONE.

Historically, English adaptations of Aeschylus' 'Agamemnon' have rendered its ancient Greek poetry into proven English poetic forms. The results have been often good and occasionally brilliant. Yet the original Greek meters provide clues as to how a section of a play was performed (sung, spoken or spoken to musical accompaniment). This has prompted Alexander Harrington, a director known for his mastery of oratorical theater, to attempt something radical: approximating Aeschylus' actual, original poetic meters in a new translation. This intrepid idea has resulted in a script of surprisingly clear stage speech and unusual poetic quality. It will debut November 12 to 29, 2009 in La MaMa's large Annex Theater, performed by The Eleventh Hour Theatre Company.

Czechoslovak-American Marionette Theater will perform 'Twelfth Night (or What You Will),' the timeless Shakespearean tale of mistaken identity and misplaced matrimony, November 12 to 29, 2009 as part of La MaMa Puppet Series 3. This three-tea-tray production, adapted and directed by Vít Horejš, will feature 16 eight-inch toy marionettes and three (more or less) live performers.

The series will open with the newest work by Theodora Skipitares, 'The Traveling Players present The Women Of Troy,' from October 8 to 25. The piece is based on the text of Euripides and the words of incarcerated women on New York's Riker's Island. From October 29 to November 8, Aphids Puppet Theatre of Australia will perform 'A Quarreling Pair,' three miniature puppet plays inspired by the work of the same name by American avant garde writer Jane Bowles. From November 12 to 29, Czechoslovak-American Marionette Theatre will perform Shakespeare's 'Twelfth Night' on three trays with three puppeteers and 22 eight-inch actors. The Series is curated by Denise Greber.

Artists and admirers will gather to toast the man whose inquiring intellect and visionary writings started many careers.

The Huntington Theatre Company continues its 28th season - a season of American Stories - with A Civil War Christmas: An American Musical Celebration, a new uplifting holiday event by Pulitzer Prize winner Paula Vogel (How I Learned to Drive, The Mineola Twins, The Baltimore Waltz). Steppenwolf Associate Artist Jessica Thebus (Intimate Apparel, Dead Man's Cell Phone, Sonia Flew) directs. Andrew Resnick (A Civil War Christmas at Long Wharf Theatre) provides musical direction of beloved holiday music supervised, arranged, and orchestrated by Daryl Waters (Tony and Grammy Award nominee for Bring in 'da Noise, Bring in 'da Funk). The Huntington's production will be enhanced by local choirs caroling from the stage before each performance.
