Kyle Jean-Baptiste's legacy grew larger this week as a substantial gift from the Mackintosh Foundation, founded by acclaimed producer Sir Cameron Mackintosh, helped to launch the official BW scholarship bearing Jean-Baptiste's name.

Just last night, Tony Award-nominee Montego Glover and Alex Finke and Alfie Boe joined the company of Claude-Michel Schonberg & Alain Boublil's Les Miserables on Broadway. Glover succeeds Erika Henningsen as Fantine, while Finke (making her Broadway debut) replaces original cast member Samantha Hill. Boe takes over for Tony Award nominee Ramin Karimloo as Jean Valjean. LES MISERABLES' home, Broadway's Imperial Theatre, will not be the only marquee dimming its lights tonight, September 1, in honor of Kyle Jean-Baptiste. HAMILTON just Tweeted that the Richard Rodgers Theatre will also observe the gesture, scheduled for 10:15 p.m. following the evening performance of LES MIZ.

Cleveland's Playhouse Square announced this evening it will dim its marquee at 9 p.m. tomorrow, September 1, in honor of local and national up-and-coming talent Kyle Jean-Baptiste. Jean-Baptiste died on Friday, August 28 at the age of 21 after an accident at home, in which he fell off his mother's fire escape.
The Broadway community mourns the loss of actor Kyle Jean-Baptiste, who passed away early Saturday morning at age 21. The marquee of Broadway's Imperial Theatre, 249 West 45th Street, will be dimmed in his memory on Tuesday, September 1st at approximately 10:15 pm following the evening performance of LES MISERABLES where he made history on July 23 when he became the first African American actor, and the youngest person ever, to play the lead role of Jean Valjean in the Broadway production of LES MISERABLES.
It was a sad afternoon in Central Park today, as a family and friends of Kyle Jean-Baptiste gathered to mourn his tragic loss. LES MISERABLES cast members, Baldwin Wallace classmates, and fellow Broadway performers shed tears and shared embraces under the watch of the Bethesda Fountain angel and tried to find some solace in these truly heartbreaking circumstances.
During the memorial, the fountain was encircled with love and support and attendees joined in singing a short portion of 'Do You Hear the People Sing?'
