This spring, CENTERSTAGE will present the World Premiere production of Artistic Director Kwame Kwei-Armah's Beneatha's Place. The production, slated to begin previews May 8, will play in rotating repertory with Bruce Norris' acclaimed Clybourne Park.

Following its run at The Public Theater, Detroit '67, the much buzzed-about play by two-time NAACP Image Award recipient, Dominique Morisseau, will open at the National Black Theatre on Saturday, March 23. Directed by Kwame Kwei-Armah, the powerful drama will run through Sunday, April 14, presented by Time Warner. Billed as 'Uptown Meets Downtown,' the production is a collaboration between the Classical Theatre of Harlem (Ty Jones, Producing Artistic Director), National Black Theatre (Sade Lythcott, CEO; Nabii Faison, General Manager and The Public Theater (Oskar Eustis, Artistic Director; Patrick Willingham, Executive Director).

The National Civil War Project, a radical multi-city, multi-year collaboration between four universities and five performing arts organizations to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the American Civil War, launched today and includes the state theater and the flagship university of the state of Maryland. CENTERSTAGE in Baltimore and the Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center at the University of Maryland are collaborating on this national project, commissioning several original theatrical productions and creating new arts-integrated academic programs. CENTERSTAGE and the Clarice Smith Center are one of four regional pairings participating in this national partnership.

Throughout the run of The Mountaintop, CENTERSTAGE encourages audiences to join the conversation with a series of pre- and post-show discussions. These events will take place on performances scheduled with the regular AfterThoughts Series, but will be enhanced by pre-show conversations and special post-show guest speakers from civic organizers continuing Dr. King's legacy of advocacy and activism within our own community.
