Back in January, BroadwayWorld's lead cabaret reviewer Stephen Hanks announced he was giving up critiquing shows to start his own company, Cabaret Life Productions, through which he would publicize, promote, and help book cabaret performers, and also produce cabaret shows. Hanks' first major production out of the box is a monthly series at the Metropolitan Room called New York Cabaret's Greatest Hits, that features talented artists recreating award-winning or highly-praised shows we wish we'd seen--a really good idea. Hanks' series launched Wednesday night with Mark Nadler's award-winning 2003 show Tschaikowsky (And Other Russians). The Metropolitan Room was filled to the gills and abuzz with anticipation, as most of the audience was only familiar with the show's second-hand praise and/or the CD version of Nadler's performance.
International Chanteuse Adrienne Haan, one of Europe's and America's most electrifying concert and cabaret stars, will make her Carnegie Hall debut at Weill Recital Hall on October 29, 2015 at 8:00pm with her production of Tehorah. The concert is in celebration of the 50th anniversary of German-Israeli diplomatic relations. Washington National Opera (WNO) opens its 2015-2016 season with a newto-Washington staging of Georges Bizet's popular classic Carmen, September 19 to October 3 in the Kennedy Center Opera House. Starring two French mezzo-sopranos-Clementine Margaine and Geraldine Chauvet- in the title role, this production also showcases two stars of flamenco dance, principal dancers Timo Nuñez (Fox's So You Think You Can Dance) and Fanny Ara. The production is staged by American director E. Loren Meeker and the WNO Orchestra is led by American conductor Evan Rogister. A special performance on Friday, October 2 features casting by current singers and alumni of WNO's Domingo-Cafritz Young Artist Program.

The Board of Directors for The Eli and Edythe Broad Stage at the Santa Monica College Performing Arts Center today announced the appointment of veteran arts executive Wiley Hausam as the organization's new Artistic and Executive Director. Hausam will assume his new role at The Broad Stage, which presents the best in classical and jazz music, opera recitals, theater, dance and children's programming, on October 1. He will be charged with leading the Santa Monica cultural institution in the next phase of its journey-including the opening of its newly expanded $23 million East Wing facilities on the SMC Performing Arts campus in early 2016-while building on its successful seven year legacy.
