PLAY IT AGAIN: THE MOVIE MUSIC OF WOODY ALLEN to Feature Ute Lemper & More

By:

Woody Allen is passionately devoted to music - in particular the jazz, swing, and popular music of the 1920's, 30's, 40's and 50's. His movies are a love letter to a glorious period in American music, featuring some of cinema's most memorable musical moments. Celebrate the collaboration between a great filmmaker and his passion for music with an evening of live performances by three of music's finest song interpreters on Thursday, October 8 at Town Hall in New York City.

PLAY IT AGAIN stars UTE LEMPER, CATHERINE RUSSELL, and TOM WOPAT. Music director Andy Farber, a long-time musician and arranger with Wynton Marsalis' Lincoln Center Orchestra, leads an ensemble of virtuoso jazz and swing players.

Ute Lemper has been praised for her interpretations of Berlin cabaret songs, the works of Kurt Weill and Berthold Brecht and the French Chanson Book, as well as her own compositions and jazz influenced collaborations and works. She recently completed a concert series with the Jazz at Lincoln orchestra and Wynton Marsalis, at Rose Hall in New York City, dedicated to the music of Kurt Weill. Her recent album, Between Yesterday and Tomorrow, consists entirely of self-penned music and lyrics.

Catherine Russell is among the greatest interpreters and performers of American Popular Song. She has performed and recorded with David Bowie, Steely Dan, Cyndi Lauper, Jackson Browne, Michael Feinstein, Levon Helm, Paul Simon, and many others. She was a featured artist on the Grammy Award-winning soundtrack album for the HBO TV series Boardwalk Empire and her most recent solo album, Bring It Back, was released in February 2014.

Tom Wopat's warm, engaging baritone is a welcome addition to the contemporary jazz scene. Tom's versatility has been on full display in a career reaching from his television work of the '70s and '80s to high visibility Tony nominated Broadway roles in 1999's Annie Get Your Gunand 2008's Catered Affair as well as Chicago, Forty-Second St., Sondheim on Sondheim and more.

PLAY IT AGAIN premiered in 2005 as a special concert in Los Angeles' Hollywood Bowl and Chicago's Ravinia Festival. Now, following the 2014 Oscar-winning film "Blue Jasmine", and the Broadway debut of "Bullets Over Broadway," it's the right time for Play It Again: The Movie Music of Woody Allen presented live in Manhattan.
