Recently, the BULL DURHAM cast took a break from rehearsals to take a field trip to Coolray Field, home to the Triple A minor league team, the Gwinnett Braves, where Braves coaches and Manager Brian Snitker provided training and tips for the talented actors. Directed by Kip Fagan (Off-Broadway: The Revisionist), BULL DURHAM has a book by Academy Award-nominee Ron Shelton (director and screenwriter of the Bull Durham movie) and music and lyrics by Susan Werner, whom the Chicago Tribune called, 'one of the most innovative songwriters working today.' HERE begins its 2014-2015 producing season with the premiere of the site-specific Artistic Director production, Trade Practices, by Kristin Marting & David Evans Morris. Trade Practices creates a living market where audience members, cash in hand, choose how to invest their time and money. Set in Pershing Hall, a historic building on Governors Island, Trade Practices kicks off Labor Day weekend, playing a limited engagement of 16 performances only, August 31 - September 21.
On March 31, 300 friends, artists and supporters gathered to celebrate and honor Soho Rep.'s Board Chair Jon Dembrow at their annual spring gala. Forty-five minutes into the evening, the beam supporting a second-story balcony at the event venue, Angel Orensanz Center, cracked. The building was deemed unsafe and all the guests were evacuated by the FDNY. The cancellation of the event and on-site auction left Soho Rep. with a projected end-of-the-fiscal-year deficit of $68,000.
The Off-Broadway production of The Long Shrift, written by Robert Boswell and directed by James Franco, opened last night at Rattlestick Playwrights Theater. The Long Shirt began previews on July 7th and will run through August 23rd. This play is James Franco's directing debut. Playwrights Horizons, under the leadership of Artistic Director Tim Sanford and Managing Director Leslie Marcus, has announced the sixth production of its upcoming 2014/2015 Season. As previously-announced, the season will conclude with a new work by Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award winner Bruce Norris (Clybourne Park and The Pain and the Itch at PH, Domesticated). That play will be the New York premiere of THE QUALMS, directed by Tony Award and Obie Award winner Pam MacKinnon (Clybourne Park and Completeness at PH; Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?; Dinner with Friends; the current When We Were Young and Unafraid).

The announcement includes casting for the first two shows of the season: initial casting for BOOTYCANDY, the New York premiere of a new play written and directed by Obie Award winner Robert O'Hara (In the Continuum, Antebellum, Insurrection: Holding History); and initial casting for GRAND CONCOURSE, the World Premiere of a new play by playwright and two-time Obie Award-winning actress Heidi Schreck (There Are No More Big Secrets, Creature), directed by Kip Fagan (The Revisionist, Asuncion).

BULL DURHAM will premiere at the Alliance Theatre on September 3, and will run until October 5. Swenson, who will play '"Crash" Davis', will appear in the new musical while on hiatus from the Broadway revival of Les Miserables, where he currently stars as Javert. Swenson will be gone July 22- October 5. A replacement has not yet been announced.

According to News Observer, Bull Durham is headed to Broadway. Bull Durham is a baseball rom-com from 1988 and is considered the best movie about any sport by Sports Illustrated. Over the years, Ron Shelton, the original writer and director, has been adapting the movie for the stage.

The Drama Desk and Obie Award-winning Keen Company presents Keen Teens, the educational theatre partnership between Off-Broadway's Keen Company and the theatrical publishing company Samuel French. The writers for the program's eighth season are Kristoffer Diaz, Halley Feiffer, and Kenny Finkle, who have been commissioned to write thirty-minute, large cast plays, which will be produced with student actors Off-Broadway.
New Ground Theatre Festival, Cleveland Play House's annual showcase of new theatrical works will open with the world premiere production of Deborah Zoe Laufer's thought-provoking Informed Consent. The Festival is comprised of 25 performances of works ranging from fully-produced, large-scale collaborations to solo performances, to readings of plays hot off the writer's printer that represent a variety of new work from nationally-recognized artists. This year's lineup also includes work from Tony Award nominee and CWRU/CPH alumna, Elizabeth A. Davis, as well as critically acclaimed playwrights George Brant and Eric Coble, and Roe Green Award Winner Heidi Schreck. For the third consecutive year, the Roe Green Award brings a leading American playwright to Cleveland to develop a new project culminating in a reading and public conversation with the playwright.
