BWW Review: 4th Wall Theatre Gives A Nice Spin To MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING

For the holiday season, 4th Wall Theatre Company (formerly Stark Naked Theatre Company) brings love and laughter to Houston audiences with Shakespeare's beloved romantic comedy, Much Ado About Nothing. Widely considered to be one of Shakespeare's best comedies, Much Ado is a delightfully hilarious and witty tale of love, friendship and intrigue. 4th Wall Theatre Company (formerly Stark Naked Theatre Company) is excited to announce its First Annual Up Close Cocktails Benefit, hosted by Trish Rigdon, Chair of Media Arts at The Art Institute of Houston. The Up Close Cocktails Benefit is Wednesday, November 9th from 6-8pm. We're transforming our theatre at Spring Street Studios, for an elegant cocktail night celebrating 4th Wall's bright future and the awesome generosity of our patrons. Patrons will enjoy live music and beer provided by Karbach Brewery, wine from Nice Winery,  hor d'oeuvres provided by Shade Restaurant and valet parking service available.  Join us to meet new friends and reconnect with old friends while making a difference in the lives of Houston performing artists. 4th Wall Theatre Company has hit the ground running this season with its opening production of Sam Shepard's Tony-nominated play, TRUE WEST. The piece explores a dualism of personalities, sibling rivalry, art as commerce, and what defines a man. Sometimes funny, sad, and frightening, the play never ceases to stir emotions from the audience. The story is interesting, timeless, and was well-told by Kim Tobin-Lehl. Of all the fantastic shows coming this season, this is one you don't want to miss.

4th Wall Theatre Company (formerly Stark Naked Theatre Company) opens its 2016-2017 season on September 9th  with Sam Shepard's Tony-nominated masterpiece, True West-a modern American classic exploring themes of sibling rivalry, art as commerce, and what it means to 'be a man.' Like a runaway train, this dark comedy about two brothers and their mutual resentment takes audiences on a thrill ride into the dark side of the human psyche, with laughs and unexpected moments of revelation along the way.  In its world premiere, the San Francisco Chronicle noted that True West is "clear, funny, naturalistic. It's also opaque, terrifying, surrealistic.  If that sounds contradictory, you're on to one aspect of Shepard's winning genius-the ability to make you think your watching one thing while at the same time he's presenting another."

After more than a year of heartfelt deliberation among board and staff, Houston's Stark Naked Theatre Company has changed its name to 4th Wall Theatre Company.

Well, we now know one thing: If the question is, in fact, WHO'S AFRAID OF VIRGINIA WOOLF?, the answer ain't Stark Naked Theatre.

Stark Naked Theatre Company stages luminary playwright Edward Albee's WHO'S AFRAID OF VIRGINIA WOOLF?, the explosive, heart pounding drama about marital discord, dysfunction and delusion between George, a university professor, and his wife Martha, as well as their unwitting guests, a younger couple Nick and Honey.

Stark Naked Theatre presents the classic, yet ever-relevant dark comedy Who's Afraid of Virgina Woolf? by Edward Albee. 

Those interested in seeing a fresh new work are in luck. Wordsmyth Theater Company presents a staged reading of Houston playwright Abby Koenig's original play, COMPLAINT BOX AND/OR GOOD TIMES, tonight January 25, 2016 at 7:30 pm.

On January 25, 2016 at 7:30 p.m., Wordsmyth Theater Company will premiere 'Complaint Box and/or Good Times,' by the Houston-based playwright, Abby Koenig. The play and free staged reading, to be held at Studio 101, Spring Street Studios, is being funded through the Houston Arts Alliance esteemed Individual Artist Grant program, which was awarded to Koenig.

Scott Burkell's updated version of HO HO HUMBUG packs laughs and heartwarming moments in his most recent trimmed down version of this original Christmas comedy. Stark Naked produced the World Premiere last year and yielded mixed reviews. I wanted to see last year's performance of HO HO HUMBUG, but am now glad I waited for this one-act 90-minute version directed by Stark Naked Artistic Directors Kim Tobin-Lehl and Philip Lehl. The show opened on December 3rd and performances will run through December 23, 2015.

Back by popular demand, Stark Naked Theatre spreads a hearty dose of holiday cheer with a new 90-minute, no-intermission version of Ho Ho Humbug that is even faster and funnier than before.

As each of us seeks to carve our own path, we yearn to connect with someone that understands us. This is why SMALL MOUTH SOUNDS resonates with audiences, and why presenting it with very little sound is relevant in today's fast-paced and technologically connected society, where silence and real human connection is scarce.
