STAGE TUBE: On This Day 12/18- PAL JOEY

Today in 2008, the third Broadway revival of Pal Joey opened at Studio 54, where it ran for 85 performances. Pal Joey is a musical with a book by John O'Hara (from his novel of the same title) and music and lyrics by Richard Rodgers and Lorenz Hart based on a character and situations O'Hara created in a series of short stories published in The New Yorker. The original 1940 Broadway production was directed by George Abbott and starred Gene Kelly. There have been several revivals since, including a 2008-09 Broadway run, and a 1957 film adaptation starring Frank Sinatra, Rita Hayworth and Kim Novak.

Profiles in History, run by Joe Maddalena, is proud to announce the auction of 75,000 original camera negatives and transparencies from the Milton H. Greene Estate. Over 3,700 unpublished Marilyn Monroe images highlight the auction. All images are to be sold with copyright and will go up for auction today, July 27.

Film Society of Lincoln Center to Screen WATCH THAT MAN: DAVID BOWIE, MOVIE STAR, 8/2-8

The Film Society of Lincoln Center announced today a weeklong series focusing on David Bowie, the actor. 2013 has seen the re-emergence of the always fascinating musician, performer and artist with the release of a new album (“The Next Day”) and a sold-out museum exhibition in London (David Bowie Is). In honor of his genius for shape shifting, the Film Society will present Watch That Man: David Bowie, Movie Star (August 2-8), a retrospective of what is arguably his finest work on the big screen—plus two special rarities from the BBC archives, one of which has never been seen in the U.S.

The original 1940 Broadway production was directed by George Abbott and starred Gene Kelly. There have been several revivals since, including a 2008-09 Broadway run, and a 1957 film adaptation starring Frank Sinatra, Rita Hayworth and Kim Novak. The 1976 cast featured: Christopher Chadman (Joey), Harold Gary (Mike), Terri Treas (Kid), Janie Sell (Gladys), and Gail Benedict (Gail).

Turner Classic Movies Celebrates Career of Actress Kim Novak Tonight

Turner Classic Movies (TCM) will celebrate the extraordinary career of actress Kim Novak with an entire night of programming tonight, March 6, beginning at 8 p.m. (ET). The evening will open with the premiere of Kim Novak: Live from the TCM Classic Film Festival, a one-hour interview special hosted by TCM's Robert Osborne and taped at last year's festival in Hollywood.

Many of his works, including PSYCHO BEACH PARTY, which is now in production at Blank Canvas Theatre, were written specifically as vehicles for Busch and his camp style of acting.

Turner Classic Movies to Celebrate Career of Actress Kim Novak, 3/6

Reed Birney at Roundabout

After more than three decades away, Reed Birney made a well-deserved return to the Broadway stage when Roundabout's production of Picnic opened earlier this month. He plays Howard Bevans, the small-town businessman who gets entangled with "old-maid schoolteacher" Rosemary Sydney (Elizabeth Marvel). Between his 1977 Broadway debut inGemini and his current turn as Howard, Birney found himself working off-Broadway. He gained critical acclaim for his work-particularly for his portrayal of the violent Ian in Sarah Kane's Blasted at SoHo Rep, a departure from his customary "nice-guy" roles. It includes two songs that have become standards: 'I Could Write a Book' and 'Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered'.
