The Human Race completes its 28th season of producing professional theatre for the Miami Valley with actress/playwright Regina Taylor's hit Crowns. There she finds healing in the personal stories of the ladies of the congregation and the hats that adorn their heads. Through time and space, their intimate histories create a soulful, joyous triumph of song, dance, culture and glorious 'hattitude' in this powerhouse gospel musical like no other. The Human Race Theatre Company's production runs tonight, June 11 - 28, 2015 at The Loft Theatre. It is co-directed by Dayton Contemporary Dance Company Artistic Director Debbie Blunden-Diggs, who also serves as choreographer, and Human Race Theatre Founding Resident Artist Scott Stoney. BWW Special Coverage: Behind the Scenes Story of the Cleveland Play House's Tony Award
by Roy Berko

At the end of each year, the Cleveland Critics Circle meets to select the winners of that year's performance awards as well as to deal with matters of importance to area theatres. At the session which brought to a close the 2014 season, I mentioned that Fran Heller, who was a member of CCC at the time, had proposed several years ago that the group nominate the Cleveland Play House for The Regional Tony Award. It had been agreed that the timing was probably not right as CPH was adjusting to its new home in the PlayhouseSquare area and a new Artistic Director was coming on board.

The Human Race to Stage Midwest Premiere of TAKING SHAKESPEARE, 4/16-5/3
by Tyler Peterson
- Apr 1, 2015
The Human Race continues its 28th season as Dayton's leading professional theatre with the Midwest premiere of Canadian playwright John Murrell's lesson in self-discovery, Taking Shakespeare. When a longtime, disillusioned college professor is asked to tutor her dean's son through his freshman Shakespeare class, she finds it to be as much a test for her as it is for him. Although they seem to have nothing in common, as they explore the Bard's Othello together, they learn more about each other-and themselves-than either is ready to admit. While they draw strength from the play, they come to understand what it means to live up to expectations. The production runs April 16 - May 3, 2015 at The Loft Theatre. It is directed by frequent Human Race actor/director Aaron Vega, who helmed The Race's Twelfth Night in 2011.
