Klea Blackhurst returned to Birdland, her musical home, on Monday, January 10, with a fresh show of stories and songs from the American Songbook and Broadway. Jim Caruso's Cast Party, the wild open mic night that celebrates the Broadway, pop and jazz communities, followed the concert.

Irving Berlin's White Christmas makes its Richmond, Va., stage debut this year at the historic Empire Theatre. The show, produced by Barksdale Theatre, opened November 19 and will run through January 9. It is directed by Patti D'Beck, who last year won the Richmond Theatre Critics Circle awards for best direction of a musical and best choreography for Barksdale's Thoroughly Modern Millie (which won 10 awards total). Like many of her leading players in White Christmas, D'Beck is a Broadway veteran, having performed in or associate-choreographed such shows as Pippin, A Chorus Line, Evita, Grease and Bells Are Ringing.

The Arvada Center for the Arts and Humanities has selected Ann Crumb, renown for her work on Broadway and the West End, to play the role of Norma Desmond in the second fully staged regional production in the U.S. of Andrew Lloyd Webber's Sunset Boulevard, which opens September 14 and runs through October 10, 2010.

Casting for the 60th Music Circus season is nearing completion. After auditioning performers in New York, Los Angeles and Sacramento, California Musical Theatre Artistic Director Glenn Casale is finalizing the acting company for the seven-show season at the Wells Fargo Pavilion. The company is expected to include Broadway veterans, including Tony Award nominees, television comedians, up-and-coming young actors and plenty of returning Music Circus favorites. Complete cast lists are available online at www.SacramentoMusicCircus.com and are subject to change.
