Beginning September 8, the Tony Award-winning Broadway hit MATILDA THE MUSICAL will welcome Natalie Venetia Belcon as Mrs. Phelps, Allison Case as Miss Honey, Rick Holmes as Mr. Wormwood, and Amy Spanger as Mrs. Wormwood. They join a principal cast that features Christopher Sieber as Miss Trunchbull, and the four girls sharing the title role: Mattea Conforti, Rileigh McDonald, Mimi Ryder, and Alexandra Vlachos.
Lesli Margherita -- Matilda the Musical's long-running 'Mrs. Wormwood' -- will play her final performance in the Broadway show today, Sept. 6.
I'm going to confess that I am in love with 'Matilda, The Musical'. I have been ever since I first heard the cast album. What I feared would be another bland attempt at putting a beloved children's classic on stage turned out to be a treasure trove of clever lyrics and great storytelling. And so with my love and familiarity of the show I was able to overlook some of the technical issues I saw with the current production at the 5th Avenue Theatre for my own personal enjoyment of the evening. But looking back on the evening I cannot deny that those issues were there, not only technical but who this show is intended for. But we'll get to all that in a minute.

While the show doesn't officially open until August 20, theatre-goers were distressed after last night's first preview, when the show reportedly struggled to make it to the final bow. The performances began a whopping hour and a half late, keeping guests waiting outside without an explanation from the staff.
