'Newport Jazz Festival(R): Now 60' Tour to Launch 2/8

In celebration of the 60th anniversary of the world-renowned Newport Jazz Festival (August 1-3, 2014), clarinetist/saxophonist Anat Cohen, vocalist/pianist Karrin Allyson, bassists Larry Grenadier and Ben Allison, pianist Peter Martin, guitarist Mark Whitfield, trumpeter Randy Brecker, and drummer Clarence Penn embark on the 17-city 'Newport Jazz Festival: Now 60' Tour, February 8 - March 30, 2014, with more dates during June, July and August in North America and Europe.

Singer Ann Hampton Callaway called it 'Musical Church,' and deemed host Jim Caruso the 'Irreverent Reverend!' Monday night's Cast Party was the be-all and end-all of extreme open-mic madness, with impromptu performances by some of the best and brightest on the Broadway, jazz, cabaret and concert scenes. Callaway led a blues vocal quintet, along with headliner Lorna Luft, Broadway leading lady Carrie Manolakos, Birdland's William Blake and Manilow-co-star Muffy Hendrix. Gato Barbieri has had to cancel tonight's and tomorrow's performances at the Blue Note. In his place will be the Michel Camilo Trio featuring Cliff Almond (drums) and Lincoln Goines (bass). The performances will take place today & Tuesday, December 3 & 4, 8 pm & 10:30 pm at The Blue Note located at 131 West 3rd Street, New York, NY 10012. Tickets are priced at $45 table seats, $30 at the bar.
