The American Foundation For Arts Education presented its annual National Arts Star Awards on November 20 in a Star-Studded Gala at The Helene Galen Performing Arts Center in Rancho Mirage. Among the honorees, James Nederlander was presented with The Legacy Award for creating The National High School Musical Theatre Awards and his ongoing commitment to arts education. The awards were presented by actor/writer Laurence Luckinbill. The National Arts Star Awards are presented to individuals and organizations that have made a significant impact on Arts Education in America's public schools. The AFAE, originally founded by Carol Channing and her late husband Harry Kullijian, works to restore the arts to our nation's public schools and insure an arts education for every child in America through advocacy and partnering with schools and communities to create specialized arts instructional opportunities for children.
SING-A-LONG SOUND OF MUSIC Returns to Music Box Theatre, Now thru 12/1

Sing-A-Long Sound of Music once again beckons turkey-stuffed friends and families to Chicago's Music Box Theatre for Thanksgiving weekend. The spirited audience-participation event includes a presentation of the 1962 Rogers & Hammerstein movie musical The Sound of Music in glorious Technicolor and full-screen Cinemascope. Lyrics are projected on the screen during the movie so that the audience can easily sing along to 'Do-Re-Me,' 'Edelweiss' and, of course, 'My Favorite Things.' The film is preceded by a hosted warm-up and a 'fancy-dress' costume contest. Sing-A-Long Sound of Music runs Today-Sunday, November 29-December 1, 2013 at the Music Box Theatre, 3733 N. Southport Avenue.
R&H Theatricals Releases Shortened Student Version of THE SOUND OF MUSIC

R&H Theatricals, a division of Rodgers & Hammerstein has released a student version of THE SOUND OF MUSIC, it was announced today by Rodgers & Hammerstein president Ted Chapin. This new theatrical property is part of R&H's Getting to Know Collection. Applications are being accepted now, with materials shipping in February for customers in the USA and Canada and at a later date for other countries around the world. Disney announced today that for one week only, guests will have the opportunity to see Disney's upcoming 'Saving Mr. Banks,' starring Emma Thompson and Tom Hanks, in a state-of-the-art movie theater on the Walt Disney Studios lot in Burbank, California, and then walk in Walt Disney's footsteps on a special tour of the famous lot. This limited engagement features one show daily at 7 p.m. from December 13th through December 19th.
