One of America's favorite cinema spoofs, FORBIDDEN HOLLYWOOD, is coming to Husson University's Gracie Theatre on Saturday, March 26, for one night only, with a performance at 7:30 p.m. This is the fourth show in the Gracie Theatre's season sponsored by Bangor Savings Bank.

Happy Birthday, Liza Minnelli! Tony and Oscar winning Broadway, film and TV star Liza Minnelli has appeared on Broadway in Flora, The Red Menace -- for which she won the 1965 Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical -- Liza, Chicago, The Act (another Tony win in 1978), The Rink, Victor / Victoria, Minnelli on Minnelli and Liza's at the Palace. She also received a special Tony Award in 1978 She has appeared as herself on TV in Smash, The Voice UK, So You Think You Can Dance, The Apprentice and more, and she is also known for her portrayal of Lucille Austero in the now-Netflix-based comedy series Arrested Development.

SHUFFLE ALONG was an unlikely hit in 1921. It was one of the first hit Broadway shows starring, written, and directed by African Americans, but it has been overwhelming ignored in theatre history. Ninety-five years later, George C. Wolfe is preparing to bring the show back to Broadway, with a new and updated book by Wolfe. The revival will not only bring the original show' music and lyrics back to the stage, but will also tell the backstage story of its creation, and the impact it had on the theatre scene. SHUFFLE ALONG, OR, THE MAKING OF THE MUSICAL SENSATION OF 1921 AND ALL THAT FOLLOWED, is set to shuffle onto Broadway in the spring, so we're taking a look at the inspiration driving the revival, and a look back on the show's remarkable history.

The second installment of the new David Rubenstein Atrium series The History of the World in 100 Performances With Adam Gopnik, tonight, March 8 at 7:30 PM, spotlights Judy Garland's triumphant 1961 concert at Carnegie Hall.

?For two storied nights in 2006, singer, songwriter and composer Rufus Wainwright performed a love letter to Judy Garland's Judy At Carnegie Hall concert with a tribute of his own, Rufus Does Judy At Carnegie Hall. Backed by a 36-piece orchestra conducted by Stephen Oremus, he performed Judy's epic 1961 Carnegie Hall performance in its entirety. A dazzling spectacle performed in front of sold-out crowds, it was critically lauded and remains a pinnacle of success amidst a career full of them.

Like Garland herself, the show is obsessed with high energy musical uppers contrasted with dark dramatic downers in between. It's a roller coaster ride of songs mixed with self destruction as we watch a star orchestrate her own death.

There is so much about the heartwarming nature complete with a simple lesson learned and the sheer magic involved in making that happen that have brought many to profess their love of The Wizard of Oz, which is, in essence, a wonderful story that tugs at the heartstrings ever so slightly. Through the eyes of Mickey Deans, Garland's husband at the time of her death, Downing strikes a stunning chord between the masculine and striking narration, and the exquisite feminine innocence of Judy's music.
