More than 300 guests dressed in elegant cocktail attire gathered at The Westin South Coast Plaza for Pacific Symphony's Opening Night party on Thursday, Sept. 25, eager to celebrate Music Director Carl St.Clair's milestone 25th anniversary with the orchestra. A festive poolside cocktail reception and gourmet dinner in the Terrace Pavilion featured a bounty of surprises for St.Clair, including performances by Pacific Symphony musicians, the John Alexander Singers and music by the maestro's mentor, Leonard Bernstein. Hosted by the Symphony's Board of Directors, the special event continued through the opening concert of the 2014-15 Hal and Jeanette Segerstrom Family Foundation Classical series, featuring classical superstar Joshua Bell, and included a reception on the Box Circle level of the hall during intermission and a post-concert party back at The Westin. The evening—presented by South Coast Plaza—raised more than $150,000 to support the Symphony's artistic and education programs. Additional sponsors included platinum sponsors Jaguar, Land Rover, Aston Martin Newport Beach and artist sponsors Ellie and Mike Gordon.

Violinist Joshua Bell is one of the most acclaimed classical musicians of today - renowned for his expressive, elegant, intelligent playing and his deep commitment to bringing the classical tradition to wider audiences. To celebrate its 40th anniversary this season, Orchestra of St. Luke's (OSL) turned to works that have been favorites among its musicians and audiences as the starting point for its Chamber Music Series programs. For the season-opening concerts in late October at The Morgan Library & Museum and Brooklyn Museum, the genesis of the program was the Schubert Octet, a work beloved and frequently performed by St. Luke's Chamber Ensemble throughout its history.

The New York Philharmonic will pay tribute to the 125th anniversary of the birth of film legend and auteur Charlie Chaplin, as well as to the 100th birthday of his most famous character, The Little Tramp, in 'Charlie Chaplin's Modern Times: The Tramp at 100,' September 19-20, 2014, conducted by Timothy Brock in his Philharmonic debut. The program is part of the second season of THE ART OF THE SCORE: Film Week at the Philharmonic, which opens with the previously announced La Dolce Vita: The Music of Italian Cinema, led by Music Director Alan Gilbert (today and tomorrow, September 16-17).

The Columbus Symphony today announced the selection of Rossen Milanov as the next Columbus Symphony Music Director. The 49-year-old Bulgarian native has been contracted to lead the CSO for four years beginning with the 2015-16 season. Until then, Milanov will be recognized as Music Director Designee, and will lead two CSO programs in the 2014-15 season-Organ Symphony (January 30 & 31) and Bolero & Percussion (March 20 & 21).
