Symphony Space's Gertrude Stein's Paris, a month-long, multi-disciplinary festival devoted to the vibrant cultural milieu of Gertrude Stein's Paris, continues on Friday, April 27 with two fully staged productions devoted to the inspiration Stein's work had on vocal and operatic repertoire. Encompass New Opera Theatre will present two one-act operas based on texts by Stein, Virgil Thomson's Capital Capitals and Ned Rorem's Three Sisters Who Are Not Sisters.

Encompass New Opera Theatre will present two one-act operas based on texts by Stein, Virgil Thomson's Capital Capitals and Ned Rorem's Three Sisters Who Are Not Sisters. Directed by Nancy Rhodes, this salute to Stein's work through American opera is a fresh examination of the influence Stein has had throughout the arts.

St. Petersburg Opera's Emerging Artists, the apprentices chosen after national auditions to understudy the principal roles, will present a program of highlights from Puccini's La Boheme and Madama Butterfly on June 4, 2011 at the American Lithuanian Club, 4880 46th Ave. St. Petersburg.

The music is Puccini, so you can be sure it's beautiful (and everyone knows the famous aria - even if you think you don't, trust me, you've heard it ...). The cast is ready to go (and terrific in these roles) and the musical ensemble rocks! What with Mark Sforzini on bassoon and conducting, Josh Quinn on keyboard, Fred Gratta on cello, and Michael Galvin on violin, what's not to like?

This spring, the St. Petersburg Opera Company and American Stage Theatre Company will co-produce Johnny Schicchi, an English-language version of Puccini's Gianni Schicchi. The show will run From April 30 to May 8.

On Saturday, November 20, 2010, at 7 p.m., fifteen singers will perform at Studio @620 in St. Petersburg Opera's version of 'Opera Idol.' These young singers have been participating in a series of workshops led by Maestro Mark Sforzini in which they have received extensive coaching in interpretation and performance techniques. In addition to over 12 hours of group sessions, each singer worked with Maestro Sforzini one-on-one. These workshops and coachings were made possible by a generous gift from the Florida Suncoast Opera Guild, as part of their Education Sponsorship for the 2010-2011 Season of St. Petersburg Opera.

Calling all Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul, and Piers Morgan wannabes: St. Petersburg Opera has some talented singers to show off!
