The Public Theater's Free Shakespeare in the Park production of The Tempest officially opened last night, June 16, and runs through Sunday, July 5, 2015. In The Tempest, Shakespeare's classic about young love, old enemies, and the eternal magic of storytelling, Prospero, exiled to a fantastical island, unleashes a churning storm to shipwreck the traitor brother who stole his throne and settle the score once and for all. But bitter revenge is upended by newfound love in this sublime masterpiece that proves we are all 'such stuff as dreams are made on.'
The New York Musical Theatre Festival will present HELD MOMENTARILY: A New Musical - from July 20 to July 27, 2015 at PTC Performance Space (555 West 42nd Street in New York). The Public Theater announced complete casting today for CYMBELINE, the second show of The Public's Free Shakespeare in the Park season at the Delacorte. Directed by Tony Award winner Daniel Sullivan and featuring the previously announced Hamish Linklater as Posthumus Leonatus/Cloten and Lily Rabe as Imogen, CYMBELINE begins performances on Thursday, July 23 and runs through Sunday, August 23, with an official press opening on Monday, August 10. On Sunday, November 16 at 7PM four new musicals will be presenting 15 minute excerpts for an audience and a panel of industry professionals. Each show will receive a 5-hour block of rehearsal time at the Factory. A cast of volunteer performers will then have 15 minutes to present each excerpt before an audience and a panel of industry professionals.
'Held Momentarily' is a poignant new musical comedy about making connections, living in the moment, and moving on in life. Conceived by a group of classmates from LaGuardia Arts High School (the 'Fame' school), the piece was originally workshopped in January 2014 at The Producers' Club, continued on to the New York International Fringe Festival at The Sheen Center, and will now extend to the FringeNYC Encore Series at SoHo Playhouse, to be helmed by director Hunter Bird and produced by Lionel Christian and Marielle Young, today, September 11-21.
