SDCF Announces Open Nomination Call for the Second-Annual Zelda Fichandler Award

Stage Directors and Choreographers Foundation (SDCF), the not-for-profit foundation of Stage Directors and Choreographers Society (SDC), announces a call for nominations for the second-annual Zelda Fichandler Award, which recognizes an outstanding director or choreographer making an exceptional contribution to the national arts landscape through theatre work in America.

OSF Features New Commissions From Diaz, Friedman, Galati, Hudes, Stew & Rodewald

At a press conference yesterday the Oregon Shakespeare Festival provided a comprehensive picture of the scope of new work underway over the next several season supported by grants totaling more than $800,000. OSF recently received a grant of $600,000 from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation over three years (2010-2012) for the decade-long commissioning, production, and public dialogue initiative American Revolutions: the United States History Cycle. The Edgerton Foundation of Los Angeles, California awarded OSF a four-year $200,000 grant to support the commissioning of five new American musicals, putting OSF in the unique position of creating new American musicals with a resident acting company.

Alley Set for BEHANDING Regional Premiere; Season Announced

Artistic Director Gregory Boyd announced that the Alley Theatre subscription season, the Theatre's 64th, will combine two world premieres, including Rajiv Joseph's psychological thriller The Medusa Body and Herbert Siguenza's new solo play A Weekend With Pablo Picasso, with new large-scale productions of Peter Pan, or The Boy Who Would Not Grow Up, the fantasy by J.M. Barrie, Pygmalion, George Bernard Shaw's great romantic comedy and Amadeus, Peter Shaffer's Tony Award-winning play.

Beach Blanket Babylon Announces 2010 Scholarship for the Arts Winners

Jo Schuman Silver, producer of Steve Silver's Beach Blanket Babylon, announced last night the three Bay Area high school winners of The Steve Silver Foundation & Beach Blanket Babylon 'Scholarship for the Arts.' The event featured a Glee-inspired opening performance of 'Don't Stop Believin' by the cast of Beach Blanket Babylon.

Jonathan Moscone To Direct the West Coast Premiere of CLYBOURNE PARK

American Conservatory Theater (A.C.T.) Artistic Director Carey Perloff announced that California Shakespeare Theater Artistic Director and celebrated Bay Area director Jonathan Moscone will direct the West Coast premiere of Bruce Norris's critically acclaimed Clybourne Park as part of A.C.T.'s 2010-11 season.

2010 Beach Blanket Babylon Scholarship for the Arts Finalists Announced

Jo Schuman Silver, producer of Steve Silver's Beach Blanket Babylon, announced today the selection of nine Bay Area finalists for the Steve Silver Foundation and Beach Blanket Babylon 'Scholarship for the Arts.' One winner in each category will be presented with a check for $10,000 towards their college education.

California Shakespeare Theater's Annual Gala Raises Over $530,000

Surrounded by friends, family, and colleagues from the East Bay, San Francisco and Marin, California Shakespeare Theater's Artistic Director Jonathan Moscone was truly the man of the hour at La Dolce Vita, Cal Shakes' 15th annual gala on Saturday, March 20, 2010. The event, honorarily co-chaired by Ann and Gordon Getty and Barclay and Sharon Simpson, celebrated 10 years of Moscone's artistic leadership of the company, with the proceeds raised going to Cal Shakes' work on stage, in classrooms and throughout communities.

Oregon Shakespeare Festival Announces its 2010 Season

The Tony Award-winning Oregon Shakespeare Festival will celebrate its 75th anniversary this season, and while patrons will notice celebratory signs and banners as well as opportunities to sit in on historical lectures and talks throughout the season, the primary celebration is onstage.
