Sacha Wares Returns To Almeida Theatre to Direct World Premiere of BOY, April 5

Sacha Wares will be returning to Almeida Theatre to direct the world premiere of Leo Butler's new play Boy, after her directorial success with the critically acclaimed production, Game, by Mike Bartlett, in 2015.  Boy will run at the Almeida Theatre from 5 April until 28 May 2016, with press night on 12 April 2016. Director Sacha Wares is joined by a formidable creative team, including two powerhouse contemporary designers, Miriam Buether for set design (Wild Swans, Sucker Punch, My Child, Generations), who worked with Sacha on Game at the Almeida in 2015, and Ultz for costume (Jerusalem, Hobson's Choice, Fallout, Pied Pier), who will be collaborating with Miriam, on design, for the very first time. Further creative credits include movement by Leon Baugh, lighting by Jack Knowles and sound by Gareth Fry.

ANDY CAPP - THE MUSICAL to Play Finborough Theatre

In a production commissioned by the Finborough Theatre, the first professional UK production in more than 30 years of Andy Capp The Musical by Alan Price and Trevor Peacock runs at the Finborough Theatre, playing Sunday and Monday evenings and Tuesday matinees from Sunday, 7 February (Press Night: Monday, 8 February 2016 at 7.30pm).

STAGE TUBE: On This Day for 12/22/15 - Ralph Fiennes

Happy Birthday, Ralph Fiennes! Fiennes' 2006 performance in the play Faith Healer gained him a nomination for a 2007 Tony Award. In 2008, Fiennes worked with frequent collaborator director Jonathan Kent to play the title role in Sophocles's Oedipus the King at The National Theatre in London. He has appeared in films such as The English Patient, In Bruges, The Constant Gardener, Strange Days and Maid in Manhattan. He is also well known for his portrayals of three infamous villains: Nazi war criminal Amon Goth in Schindler's List, serial killer Francis Dolarhyde in the 2002 film Red Dragon, and Lord Voldemort in the Harry Potter film series. Most recently, he appeared in The Reader (2008), The Hurt Locker (2009) and as Hades in Clash of the Titans (2010).

Japan Society Presents 'A NIGHT OF KYOGEN' Tonight

As part of its 2015-2016 Performing Arts Season, Japan Society presents A Night of Kyogen with Mansaku Nomura and Mansaku-no-Kai Kyogen Company, bringing this renowned company back to Japan Society (333 East 47th Street) for three performances only: Tonight, December 10 - Saturday, December 12. Performances at 7:30pm.

KINKY BOOTS & IN THE HEIGHTS Top 16th Annual WhatsOnStage Awards Nominations

At a ceremony held today at London's Café de Paris, Steve Furst announced the nominees for the 16th Annual WhatsOnStage Awards. The announcement of the nominations marks the opening of the final voting stage (closes 31 January), with winners announced at the annual Awards Concert held on 21 February 2016 at the Prince of Wales Theatre.

SHERLOCK's Andrew Scott in Talks for HAMLET at the Almeida Theatre

According to the Daily Mail, SHERLOCK star Andrew Scott might take on Shakespeare in the coming year. Baz Bamigboye writes that he is currently in talks to play Hamlet, directed by Robert Icke at the Almeida Theatre- possibly in late 2016-early 2017.

More good news, Baz Bamingboye reports in the UK Daily Mail that Broadway could indeed be next, writing 'We are actively pursuing and trying to work out the right way to go to New York with Imelda in Gypsy,' said Michael Harrison, who produced the show with David Ian. The Jonathan Kent production recouped its costs and made a profit for investors which (as we know) doesn't happen with every musical production.' He also notes '

As part of its 2015-2016 Performing Arts Season, Japan Society presents A Night of Kyogen with Mansaku Nomura and Mansaku-no-Kai Kyogen Company, bringing this renowned company back to Japan Society (333 East 47th Street) for three performances only: Thursday, December 10 - Saturday, December 12. West End's GYPSY Starring Imelda Staunton to Close, Nov. 28

Jonathan Kent's five-star production of Gypsy starring Imelda Staunton as Rose will have its final performance on 28 November 2015 as previously announced.   Having smashed the all time box office record at the Savoy Theatre and subsequently recouped, Kent's production originally opened at the Chichester Festival Theatre in October last year.  Following a second set of five-star reviews, producers Michael Harrison and David Ian announced an extension to the West End run in April.
