Last night, November 8, The New 42nd Street Gala honored Tony Award winning actor Bill Irwin. The annual event, which this year celebrates The New Victory Theater Education Program, featured guests Nathan Lane, Jonathan Demme, new vaudeville troupe The Handsome Little Devils and Full Circle Productions (under the direction of Gabriel 'Kwikstep' Dionisio and Ana 'Rokafella' Garcia), Kevin Kline, Phoebe Cates Kline and more. After accepting his award, Irwin took the stage with 12 4th graders from PS/IS 111 to present a special musical vaudeville finale, the product of student workshops led by Irwin with children from The New Victory Education Residency program. This morning, Friday, November 5th, Tony Award winner Bill Irwin rehearsed a special vaudeville routine with 4th graders at PS/IS 111. On November 5th, Irwin will team up with the children to rehearse the finale of The New 42nd Street Gala, celebrating The New Victory Theater Education Program, at which Irwin will receive the first-ever New Victory Arts Award.

East West Players (EWP), the nation's premier Asian American theatre, continues its 45th Anniversary season, themed Shake It Up, with the Pulitzer Prize-winning play CRIMES OF THE HEART by Beth Henley. This production will be directed by Leslie Ishii. The cast of the production includes Maya Erskine, Kimiko Gelman, Elizabeth Liang, Hiwa Bourne, Tim Chiou, and Jason Sino. Due to popular demand, Neil Simon's award-winning comedy The Prisoner of Second Avenue has extended its run at the Vaudeville Theatre until 25 September 2010. Directed by Terry Johnson and starring Jeff Gold blum and Mercedes Ruehl, The Prisoner Of Second Avenue is the first West End production to be staged by The Old Vic Theatre Company.

The Stella Adler Studio of Acting will hold its 5th annual Harold Clurman Festival of the Arts this fall, bringing artists and activists together to discuss the relationship between art and social activism. Events will take place beginning on September 20th and end on October 1st.

Dean Travis Preston is pleased to announce that acclaimed actress Lisa Gay Hamilton is joining the faculty of California Institute of the Arts (CalArts) School of Theater beginning in the fall semester 2010. Recognized as one of the outstanding actors of her generation, Ms. Hamilton has a distinguished career on stage, screen, and television--currently playing the role of Melissa in the comedy-drama television series Men of a Certain Age . She will be teaching in the Acting Program.
