Mel Brooks To Receive 41st AFI Life Achievement Award

Sir Howard Stringer, Chair of the American Film Institute's Board of Trustees, announced today the Board's decision to honor Mel Brooks with the 41st AFI Life Achievement Award, the highest honor for a career in film. The award will be presented to Brooks at a gala tribute on Thursday, June 6, 2013 in Los Angeles, CA.

Steven Spielberg and John Williams To Join Atl Symphony for Benefit Concert, 10/24

Academy Award-winning composer John Williams and Academy Award-winning director and producer Steven Spielberg will join the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra for "An Evening with John Williams, Steven Spielberg and the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra" on Wednesday, October 24, 2012, at 8:00 p.m. Mr. Williams will conduct the Orchestra in selections from his most popular original film compositions while selected movie clips are shown on a giant screen. Mr. Spielberg will host the second half of the concert and will supplement the musical program with anecdotes and insight into the featured films.

Atlanta Symphony Announces October Concerts

Music Director Robert Spano and the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra will open the 2012-13 season this weekend, October 4 and 6, 2012, at 8:00 p.m., and October 7, 2012, at 3:00 p.m. Acclaimed violinist Midori will return to Atlanta for the Beethoven Violin Concerto. Also on the program will be Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 4. These concerts will mark the first performances of the Orchestra's 68th season.

THE PRESIDENT'S OWN - US Marine Band Announces Fall Concert Tour

'The President's Own' United States Marine Band will depart Washington, D.C., Monday, Oct. 1, 2012, for its annual fall concert tour, performing 29 concerts in 31 days throughout the Northeast. The band will perform its first concert at 7:30 p.m., Monday, Oct. 1, at the Lampeter-Strasburg High School Auditorium in Lampeter, Pa., and will conclude its tour at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 31, at Queen Anne's County High School in Centreville, Md.

PAIFF Celebrates 30th Anniversary of E.T. THE EXTRA-TERRESTRIAL with Palo Alto Screening Tonight, 9/28

The Science and Technology Council of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, in conjunction with the Palo Alto International Film Festival (PAIFF), presents a 30th anniversary screening of Steven Spielberg's 'E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial' tonight, September 28, at 7:30 p.m. at the Outdoor Festival Village Stage in Palo Alto, CA. Hosted by Variety tech columnist David S. Cohen, the evening features an onstage discussion with members of the film's crew. Admission is free.

Audra McDonald Hosts Broadcast of the New York Philharmonic Opening Gala Tonight, 9/27

Tune in to PBS tonight, September 27, 2012, at 8 p.m.* for Live From Lincoln Center's telecast of the New York Philharmonic's Opening Gala conducted by Music Director Alan Gilbert. The program will feature world famous violinist Itzhak Perlman performing personal favorites including Williams' Theme from Schindler's List and Massenet's "Meditation from Tha?s, as well as works by Sarasate, Tchaikovsky and Rimsky-Korsakov. The broadcast, which features extended artist profiles, will also include Respighi's celebrated Fountains of Rome and Pines of Rome.

Chicago's Jewish and Muslim Communities 'Bridge the Gap' with Interfaith Concert Tonight, 9/2

The Lincolnwood Chamber Orchestra, managed by American Music Festivals, will be joined by vocal soloist Imam Senad Agic for the U.S. premiere of Josip Slavenski's "Muslimani" tonight, Sept. 2 at 7PM at the American Islamic College (640 W.
