To celebrate the 20th Anniversary of the Westport Arts Awards, Westport Country Playhouse is currently presenting a lobby exhibit featuring past Award winners who have been associated with the historic theater, now through October 27.
Special ticket offers will be available to local theater groups and educators for Westport Country Playhouse's "Room Service," a backstage comedy about the business of putting on a play, written by John Murray and Allen Boretz, and directed by Mark Lamos, Playhouse artistic director.
To kick off its production of the show business farce "Room Service," Westport Country Playhouse will host a free film screening of another backstage comedy, "Bullets Over Broadway," directed by Woody Allen, on Sunday, October 6, 4 p.m., in the Playhouse's Sheffer Studio. The screening is free-of-charge by reservation through the Playhouse box office at 203-227-4177. Free popcorn and beverages will be available.

The award winning Foothill Music Theatre swings for the fences this summer with the Tony Award-winning musical DAMN YANKEES. Westport Country Playhouse will stage the British farce, 'Loot,' a wickedly funny send-up of larcenous, lascivious behavior among the English middle classes, written by Joe Orton and directed by David Kennedy, Playhouse associate artistic director, playing from tonight, July 16 through August 3. The play won the coveted Evening Standard Award for Best Play in 1967.
To kick off its third production of the season, 'Loot' by Joe Orton, Westport Country Playhouse will host a free film screening of 'Prick Up Your Ears,' the 1987 film adaptation of Orton's biography, starring Gary Oldman, Alfred Molina, and Vanessa Redgrave, and directed by Stephen Frears, today, July 14, 4 p.m., in The Playhouse's Sheffer Studio.
Westport Country Playhouse hosted an unveiling of a portrait of the late actor Jason Robards, for whom the theater is named, on Tuesday, July 9. The portrait depicts Robards in the role of Cornelius Melody in 'A Touch of the Poet' by Eugene O'Neill. Donated to the Playhouse by Robards's children, Jake and Shannon, it is displayed in the Playhouse lobby. The portrait artist is Clyde Smith of Silvermine Arts Center.
