John Logan's 'Genius' to Hit Screen; Penn to Star?

John Logan has adapted 'Max Perkins: Editor of Genius' into a screenplay, entitled GENIUS, Hollywood.com reports. The film will deal with 'the titular eccentric editor-in-chief of New York publishing house Scribner, who published the works of F. Scott Fitzgerald, Earnest Hemingway, and other literary luminaries,' especially his relationship with Thomas Wolfe, the website reports.

THE FANTASTICKS Erik Altemus Cast in HBO Pilot The Miraculous Year

Erik Altemus, currently appearing as Matt in the Off Broadway production of The Fantasticks, has been cast in the HBO pilot The Miraculous Year, written by John Logan (Red) and directed by Kathryn Bigelow (The Hurt Locker). Altemus will play Brandon, a dancer.

Susan Sarandon Joins Logan's 'Miraculous Year' HBO Pilot

Deadline.com reports that Susan Sarandon has been cast in HBO's 'The Miraculous Year' pilot. The pilot is written by John Logan, directed by Kathryn Bigelow, and includes music by Adam Guettel. Sarandon will play Patty Atwood, a director/choreographer.

The Hurt Locker's Kathryn Bigelow is directing the pilot, which begins shooting this summer. Both Logan and Bigelow are also executive producing the piece.

RED Breaks Golden Theatre House Record During Final Week On Broadway

he Donmar Warehouse production of RED broke the house record at the Golden Theatre in its final week on Broadway. RED, the biggest Tony Award winner of the 2009-2010 season, grossed $724,155.50 for eight performances in the week ending June 27, breaking the record set by Avenue Q on December 31, 2006 for a nine performance week.

Update: Fiennes' 'Coriolanus' Purchased by Spain, BBC

Icon Entertainment International has begun to sell international distribution rights for Ralph Fiennes' 'Coriolanus,' according to a report by Deadline.com. First buyers include Spain and the BBC for UK television. The BBC is a co-producer of the picture, which stars Tony Award-winner Vanessa Redgrave along with Fiennes as Coriolanus, Gerard Butler as Afidius, and Emmy Award-winner Brian Cox as Menenius.
