Created by Marvin Hamlisch (music), Craig Carnelia (lyrics), and John Guare (book), the show is based on the 1957 movie of the same name. It tells the story of a powerful newspaper columnist named J. J. Hunsecker (based on famed New York columnist Walter Winchell) who uses his connections to ruin his sister's relationship with a man he deems inappropriate. The show starred John Lithgow as J.J. Hunsecker, and Brian d'Arcy James as Sidney Falcone.

Manhattan Theatre Club has announced that two time Drama Desk Award nominee Margaret Colin ("Gossip Girl," MTC's Defiance) and four time Tony Award winner Boyd Gaines (Gypsy, Contact) will join Tony and Emmy Award winner John Lithgow in the cast of the world premiere of THE COLUMNIST by Tony and Pulitzer Prize winner David Auburn, directed by Tony Award winner Daniel Sullivan.

The third and final performance of the LA Phil LIVE second season will feature world-renowned Music Director Gustavo Dudamel and the LA Phil with jazz legend Herbie Hancock for a celebration of quintessential American composer George Gershwin on Sunday, March 18 at 2 p.m. Pacific / 5 p.m. Eastern. LA Phil LIVE: Gustavo Dudamel and Herbie Hancock Celebrate Gershwin, pre-recorded from the LA Phil's 2011-12 season Opening Night Concert at Walt Disney Concert Hall, includes some of the composer's best-loved works including the Cuban Overture, An American in Paris, and Rhapsody in Blue, as well as intimate solo improvisations by Hancock on Embraceable You and Someone to Watch Over Me.
