Ford's Theatre Society Honors President Abraham Lincoln at Annual Gala

Ford's Theatre Society honored the legacy of President Abraham Lincoln at its Annual Gala on Sunday evening, June 4, 2017, at Ford's Theatre (511 10th Street NW). For more than 40 years, the Society has hosted this bi-partisan event, which provides crucial support to the non-profit's theatrical and education programs.

The Nash Announces June Jazz Lineup

June is hopping and bopping as The Nash kicks off with a wide array of summer concerts and workshops.  Highlights include Joey Sellers Quartet on June 10 and Rachel Eckroth's Antelog on June 16.  Public performances from students participating in the Nash summer workshops will be held during the month as well as a discussion on history of jazz from noted ASU scholar, Dr. Chris Wells on June 18.

BRIC Celebrate Brooklyn! Festival Announces Summer 2017 Lineup

GREAT COMET Creators Dave Malloy and Rachel Chavkin Win Smithsonian's 2017 Ingenuity Award

Smithsonian magazine announced today the first winners of the 2017 American Ingenuity Awards. Dave Malloy, creator, and Rachel Chavkin, director of the renowned Broadway musical Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812, are being honored with the American Ingenuity Award in History. They will receive the award at an awards gala at the National Portrait Gallery on November 29.

Los Angeles Times Announces Lineup for 22nd Annual Festival of Books, 4/22

The Los Angeles Times today announced the lineup for the 22nd annual Festival of Books, the nation's largest literary festival, April 22-23 at the University of Southern California. The event will feature more than 500 authors, celebrities, musicians, artists and chefs. On Friday, April 21, the 37th annual Book Prizes will honor reading and educational activist Ruebén Martinez with the Innovator's Award, novelist Thomas McGuane with the Robert Kirsch Award for lifetime achievement, and 11 outstanding literary works published during the last year.

The New York Musical Festival Announces Initial Lineup for 2017 Festival

The New York Musical Festival (NYMF) announced today the initial lineup for 2017 NYMF. Among the shows announced in the lineup are the Next Link Project musical selections, as well as invited production selections. Now in its fourteenth year, the 2017 Festival will take place July 10th through August 6th at locations around midtown Manhattan in New York City. Dan Markley serves as NYMF Executive Director & Producer and Rachel Sussman serves as Director of Programming & Artist Services.

Vegan Athletes Compete at AZ Vegetarian Food Festival, Today

Belying the myth that world-class athletes must consume animal protein in order to build muscles, this weekend's Arizona Vegetarian Food Festival will showcase a number of ripped competitors who fuel their feats with plant-based diets. The festival takes place at the Scottsdale Civic Center Amphitheater this Today, January 28th and Sunday, January 29th from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days. Bodybuilders and power-lifters John Lewis, Ndem Nkem, Will Tucker, Robert Cheeke, and Thomas Tadlock are among those who will speak about their training regimens and vegan diets. Also on tap is Olympic silver medalist Dotsie Bausch. In addition to her Olympic title, she is a 7-time U.S. National Champion in cycling and 2-time Pan American gold medal winner who also speaks out on behalf of animal rights and the prevention of eating disorders. The founder of Vegan Health & Fitness Magazine, Brenda Carey, will give a presentation focusing on nutrition and inspiring stories from athletes around the world. Other speakers at the festival will discuss environmentalism, animal activism, and the health benefits of vegan meals. There will also be cooking demonstrations from a dozen celebrity chefs including Fran Costigan and Jason Wyrick. There will also be a variety of entertainers including Warshow Angels' own Kneel Cohn, the Riley Rainbow Family Circus, Jonathan Luther, Louis IV, and Foresteater's Mikey Pro. In addition to the speakers and entertainment, the festival will feature more than 70 exhibitors, many of whom will offer free tasting samples of their vegan wares. Ruchi Indian Cuisine and Simon's Hot Dogs are just two of the eateries on the roster. Children's activities, yoga classes, a charity raffle benefiting FARM, and various fitness activities will round out the festival.
