New York City Opera's General Manager and Artistic Director George Steel will moderate an in-depth roundtable discussion on what defines the opera and musical theater genres at the Gershwin Theatre on the set of Stephen Schwartz's acclaimed Broadway production Wicked. He will be joined by a panel of distinguished composers and playwrights including Stephen Schwartz, Rufus Wainwright (composer and performer), Adam Guettel (composer of Floyd Collins and The Light in the Piazza), John Kander (composer of Cabaret and Chicago) and David Henry Hwang (librettist for operas such as Alice in Wonderland and The Fly, playwright of M. Butterfly, book for Flower Drum Song, Tarzan and Aida on Broadway). The discussion, which will take place on April 10, precedes the New York premiere of Schwartz's first opera Séance on a Wet Afternoon, opening at New York City Opera on Tuesday, April 19.

Beginning performances on Thursday, March 17, 2011, And the Curtain Rises marks the third production presented as part of Signature's AMVP, the largest commissioning program for new musicals in the country, following Michael John LaChiusa's Giant in 2009 and Ricky Ian Gordon's Sycamore Trees last year. David Bedella will continue his run of devilish West End starring roles by playing unscrupulous lawyer ‘Billy Flynn' in the smash-hit West End show 'CHICAGO' at the Cambridge Theatre, with his first performance on Monday 28 February. His previous West End roles include creating the character of ‘Satan' in the notorious 'Jerry Springer the Opera', for which he won the 2004 Olivier Award for ‘Best Actor in a Musical', crazed scientist ‘Dr Frank-N-Furter' in 'The Rocky Horror Show' and KGB agent ‘Alexander Molokov' in 'Chess' at the Royal Albert Hall. His film credits include Oliver Stone's 'Alexander' with Anthony Hopkins and 'Batman Begins' with Christian Bale. He will play the role for 10 weeks only until 8 May.

Civic Theatre of Allentown will hold auditions for its May 2011 production of Kander & Ebb's iconic musical 'Cabaret' at 7 pm on Monday, February 28, 2011. Auditions will be in the rehearsal hall above Civic's Nineteenth Street Theatre at 527 N 19th Street in Allentown. If necessary, callbacks will be held on Tuesday, February 29, 2011. The Boca Raton Theatre Guild will continue its extremely successful season with John Kander and Fred Ebb's classic musical, Cabaret. The Guild's recent production of Neil Simon's Broadway Bound consistently filled the Willow Theatre at Sugar Sand Park to capacity throughout its run. Cabaret will run from February 25th through March 13th.
