John Eaton to Sing Holiday Favorites at The Alden

Washington, D.C.'s beloved musicologist, humorist and jazz pianist extraordinaire, John Eaton, will share the history and harmonies of some favorite seasonal songs from the American Songbook at a special "Holiday Spectacular" at The Alden in McLean.

The Alden in McLean announces its upcoming season of national and international touring artists. Professional artists from the worlds of comedy, dance, theatre, music, jugging, children's theatre and more will visit the 383-seat performing arts venue located inside the Beltway and minutes from downtown DC.

More Between Heaven and Earth, Salon/Sanctuary's original site-specific music theater piece, directed and with a script by Erica Gould based on the letters of Thomas Jefferson and Maria Cosway, returns to Fraunces Tavern on January 18th. Fraunces Tavern, built in 1719, sets the stage for the production, which features music prepared from the original 18th century manuscripts, researched by Jessica Gould.

Sue & Edd's Fabulous Christmas Show Returns to Don't Tell Mama, 12/04-07

Orion Ensemble's RHAPSODY to Showcase Sebastian Huydts, 11/23

?The Orion Ensemble, winner of the prestigious Chamber Music America/ASCAP Award for Adventurous Programming, continues its 22nd season A Taste of Chicago, A World of Romance with 'Rhapsody,' a program showcasing Chicago composer Sebastian Huydts. Performances take place at the Music Institute of Chicago's Nichols Concert Hall in Evanston November 23; First Baptist Church of Geneva November 30; and Sherwood, The Community Music School of Columbia College Chicago December 3.

John Eaton Explores the Music of Jerome Kern at The Alden in McLean Today

Jazz pianist, musicologist and humorist John Eaton will return to The Alden at the McLean Community Center this fall with his popular program, 'Jazz Masters with John Eaton.' Eaton will present 'The Master: The Glorious Songs of Jerome Kern' at 1 p.m. today, Oct. 4. Tickets are $10 for the general public, $5 for MCC tax district residents. The theatre is located at 1234 Ingleside Avenue.

Eaton and Cecil to Perform JAZZ, BLUES & BROADWAY at The Alden, 6/21

Two of D.C.'s favorite jazz musicians, pianist John Eaton and bassist Tommy Cecil, will bring a 'cool' and refreshing summer concert, 'Jazz, Blues & Broadway' to The Alden for a single performance on Saturday, June 21, at 8 p.m. The duo will perform a variety of songs, while Eaton will accentuate the music with his trademark witty, astute commentary. Tickets are $27, $18 for McLean district residents. District residents can purchase tickets for $13 prior to May 21. The Alden is located at 1234 Ingleside Avenue, inside the McLean Community Center.

Opera Colorado Announces Upcoming Productions - MADAMA BUTTERFLY, THE MAGIC FLUTE, and More

Opera Colorado announced today that it will present Giacomo Puccini's Madama Butterfly(November 2014), W.A. Mozart's The Magic Flute (May 2015), Giuseppe Verdi's Aida (November 2015), and the world premiere of Lori Laitman's The Scarlet Letter (May 2016) starring Elizabeth Futral as Hester Prynne. A vital presence in Denver's cultural ecology, Opera Colorado is the Rocky Mountain region's preeminent grand opera company. The Opera's programming includes mainstage productions, artist development initiatives, and education and community engagement programming.

New Harriet Tubman Opera to Preview at Harlem's Schomburg Center, Today

AOP (American Opera Projects), and the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture will co-present an evening of scenes from Nkeiru Okoye's folk opera Harriet Tubman: When I Crossed That Line to Freedom that tells of how a young girl born in slavery, becomes Harriet Tubman, the legendary Underground Railroad conductor. The musical excerpts will be followed by an artist Q&A moderated by WQXR's Terrance McKnight. The concert will be presented today, December 9, 2013 at 6:30 PM at the Langston Hughes Auditorium: 515 Malcolm X Boulevard, New York, NY 10037-1801.

American Composers Orchestra Continues COLABORATORY: PLAYING IT UNSAFE Initiative, Now thru 4/5

American Composers Orchestra (ACO) continues its season-long initiative, coLABoratory: Playing It UNsafe, the first and only professional research and development lab to support the creation of cutting-edge new American orchestral music through no-holds-barred experimentation, encouraging composers to do anything but 'play it safe.' Audiences will have the opportunity to see and hear the composers' works-in-progress at free lab workshops today, March 5, 2013 at 10am at Flushing Town Hall (137-35 Northern Blvd., Flushing, NY), and Today, April 2, 2013 at 2pm at The DiMenna Center (450 W. 37th St., NYC). coLABoratory culminates on Friday, April 5, 2013 at 7:30pm with a concert featuring all of the new works at Carnegie Hall's Zankel Hall, conducted by ACO Music Director George Manahan.
