Joe's Pub has announced the following upcoming events.

ONCE begins previews on Broadway Tuesday, February 28, 2012 with an opening night set for Sunday, March 18, 2012. The production features the Academy Award-winning music and lyrics of Glen Hansard and Markéta Irglová, a book by award-winning Irish playwright & screenwriter, Enda Walsh (Penelope, Hunger, The New Electric Ballroom), direction by the acclaimed Scottish director of Black Watch, John Tiffany, movement by Steven Hoggett (Black Watch, American Idiot) and musical direction by Martin Lowe (Mamma Mia!). The set and costume design are by five time Tony Award winner Bob Crowley (The Coast of Utopia, Mary Poppins), lighting design is by Tony winner Natasha Katz (Aida, The Coast of Utopia), and sound design is by Clive Goodwin. According to The Hollywood Reporter, actors Mark Ruffalo and Scarlett Johansson will star in the upcoming romantic film CAN A SONG SAVE YOUR LIFE? The film will be written and directed by John Carney.

ONCE, the new musical based on the 2007 Academy Award-winning film, will play Broadway's Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre this spring. Previews will begin Tuesday, February 28, 2012 with opening night set for Sunday, March 18, 2012. The cast of the show goes into the studio today to record the cast album, which will be released by Masterworks Broadway. No word yet on a release date.

With Broadway's fall offerings celebrating their opening nights, attention has turned to what shows are slated to open for the 2012 spring season. It hasn't yet been set as a particularly full season for new musicals, but as the New York Times reports, that could easily change by the time the spring rolls around.

Michael Riedel reports in the New York Post this morning that the new musical Once, inspired by Dublin street performers and a stage adaptation of the eponymous film, may make it's Broadway debut in February of 2012. The musical recently received a workshop at the American Repertory Theatre in Boston and will be given a full production at the New York Theatre Workshop in December.
