The Auditorium Theatre  announces another season of exciting, diverse programming which supports its commitment to presenting the finest performances in international and local dance, along with America's most cherished music, to Chicago. Highlights of the Auditorium's 2016-17 season include Cole Porter 125 - A Birthday Celebration, featuring Chicago singers and musicians; Ensemble Español Spanish Dance Theater in their "Made in Chicago" Dance Series debut;  the return of Eifman Ballet's Red Giselle; and a new, innovative ballet by Dance Theatre of Harlem's Francesca Harper.

The New York Choral Society will present Handel's biblical oratorio Israel in Egypt under the baton of Music Director David Hayes, on Tuesday evening, May 10th, 2016, 8pm at Carnegie Hall's Stern Auditorium. Composed entirely from selected passages from the Bible's Old Testament, Israel in Egypt relates the harshness of the Israelites' captivity in Egypt and their subsequent triumphant escape from the Pharaoh's oppressive regime. Israel in Egypt is atypical in Handel's choral output, as it contains little solo material and is dominated by large-scale virtuosic choruses that exhibit Handel's mastery as a musical storyteller.

As BroadwayWorld reported yesterday evening, Kenneth Joseph 'Ken' Howard, Jr., a Tony and Emmy Award-winning actor and president of the performers union SAG-AFTRA, died today, March 23, at his home near Los Angeles. He was 71. Betty Buckley, who starred alongside Howard in 1776, wrote of the departed:

Oakland, March 23, 2016 – The Oakland Symphony, Music Director and Conductor Michael Morgan, the Oakland Symphony Chorus and guest artists Tracy Silverman, electric violin, and soprano Nicole Joseph will conclude the Symphony's 2015-2016 season with a concert of music by John Adams, Stravinsky, Barber and RavelFriday, May 20, at 8 pm at the Paramount Theatre. Mr. Silverman will perform John Adams' The Dharma at Big Sur for orchestra and electric violin and Ms. Joseph, who was the winner of the 2015 Toland Vocal Arts Competition, will sing Samuel Barber's Knoxville: Summer of 1915. Completing the evening will be Stravinsky's Symphony of Psalms with the Oakland Symphony Chorus, Lynne Morrow, Director; and Ravel's La Valse. The Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts joins forces with the Ojai Music Festival for the first time to present a lively Arts & Ideas conversation between groundbreaking opera and theater director Peter Sellars and The New Yorker music critic Alex Ross. The conversation will take placeon the stage of the Bram Goldsmith Theater on Monday, May 16 at 7:30pm.

Houston, March 22, 2016— Houston Grand Opera (HGO) is extending the company's offer of free renewals for subscription packages to all laid-off employees from the energy industry who are current subscribers. HGO first announced the offer in September 2015 for subscriptions to the current season.  The company recently kicked off subscription sales for the 2016–17season; the offer will now apply to those subscriptions as well.   

BERKELEY, CA (March 22, 2016) – Music Director Joana Carneiro and Berkeley Symphonyclose their 2015-16 season Thursday, May 5 at 8 pm at Zellerbach Hall with the West Coast premiere of Mark Grey's Frankenstein Symphony, which the Orchestra co-commissioned with Atlanta Symphony Orchestra. Violinist Simone Porter makes her first appearance in the Bay Area, performing Tchaikovsky's Violin Concerto with the Orchestra.

Miller Theatre at Columbia University School of the Arts continues its Composer Portraits series with Francesca Verunelli, featuring International Contemporary Ensemble (ICE, David Fulmer, conductor) on Thursday, April 21, 2016, 8:00 p.m. at Miller Theatre (2960 Broadway at 116th Street).

To close the 2015-16 season, The Media Theatre has a musical to lead Philadelphia into the time frame of the upcoming 2016 Democratic Convention which will be hosted by the City of Brotherly Love. 

Lakewood Theatre Company will begin its 64th season with six productions on its Mainstage and three productions on its Side Door stage beginning July 8, 2016.

Marking the 400th anniversary of the death of William Shakespeare, the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra and Music Director Edo de Waart will present two performances of William Walton's Henry V: A Shakespeare Scenario tonight and tomorrow, March 19 at 8:00 p.m. and March 20 at 2:30 p.m. at the Marcus Center for the Performing Arts.

The British Academy of Film and Television Arts has announced today that one of the UK's leading casting directors, Nina Gold, will be honoured with the BAFTA Special Award at this year's British Academy Television Craft Awards on Sunday April 24 at The Brewery, London.
