Playing the radiant Martha Jefferson will be Nikki Renne Daniels, whose extensive Broadway credits include THE BOOK OF MORMON, PORGY AND BESS, ANYTHING GOES, and LES MISERABLES. Alan Gilbert will conduct the New York Philharmonic in Mahler's Das Lied von der Erde, featuring baritone Thomas Hampson and tenor Stefan Vinke, in his Philharmonic debut, and Sibelius's Symphony No. 7, Wednesday, April 20, 2016, at 7:30 p.m.; Thursday, April 21 at 7:30 p.m.; and Friday, April 22 at 11:00 a.m.

Rehearsals start this week for Opening Skinner's Box, a new production adapted by Improbable and marking 20 years since the company's inception. Directed by Phelim McDermott and Lee Simpson, co-founders of Improbable, this production will play at Northern Stage, West Yorkshire Playhouse and the Bristol Old Vic. Previewing from 22 April at Northern Stage.

Today in 1969, 1776 opened at the 46th Street Theatre (now the Richard Rogers Theatre), where it ran for 1217 performances. 1776 is a musical with music and lyrics by Sherman Edwards and a book by Peter Stone. The story is based on the events surrounding the signing of the Declaration of Independence. It focuses on, and partly fictionalizes, the efforts of John Adams to persuade his colleagues to vote for American independence and to sign the document. The production was nominated for five Tony Awards and won three, including the Tony Award for Best Musical. The musical was made into a film of the same name in 1972 and was revived on Broadway in 1997.

Tonight, March 15, Broadway's AN AMERICAN IN PARIS welcomes a new star -- Garen Scribner -- who will also be traveling with the show's upcoming national tour this fall.

Virginia Repertory Theatre announced the titles for the 2016/17 Season at the Open House at the November Theatre on Saturday, March 12.

Carnegie Hall presents the pioneering Kronos Quartet in a program of new works, including two world premieres, on Saturday, April 2 at 7:30 p.m. in Zankel Hall. Aleksandra Vrebalov's open-form piece, My Desert, My Rose, and Yotam Haber's South Africa-inspired break_break_break will receive their world premieres. The program also includes New York premieres of works by Nicole Lizee, N. Rajam, Wu Man, Karin Rehnqvist, Fode Lassana Diabate, and Albert Behar. A new arrangement by Jacob Garchik of 'Baba O'Reilly,' Pete Townshend's classic song for The Who, is also featured.
