Premiering at the 2012 Edinburg Fringe Festival, 50 SHADES! THE MUSICAL edged out about two months before its competition, SPANK! THE FIFTY SHADES PARODY. 'The Original Parody' of E.L. James' blockbuster 50 Shades of Grey has received positive notices to rave reviews in Edinburg, Chicago, New York City, and the other markets the show has played. Now, in its second leg of its National Tour, the raucously raunchy little show is still going strong and leaving fans absolutely spent.

The critically hailed parody of the phenomenally popular books '50 SHADES! THE MUSICAL' features a sassy original score with musical influences ranging from traditional musical theater to pop to R&B and gospel.
"50 SHADES! THE MUSICAL," the original, critically-hailed parody of the phenomenally popular books, is taking its whips, feather dusters and outrageous laughs on a tour of North America. The show will play the House of Blues Chicago, 329 N Dearborn St, Thursday, May 2 at 7 p.m.
Hot on the heels of sold-out engagements in New York and Chicago, "50 SHADES! THE MUSICAL," the original, critically-hailed parody of the phenomenally popular books, is taking its whips, feather dusters and outrageous laughs on a tour of North America.
Set in a big apartment building, Apt. 3 is the simple tale of two young brothers who hear saxophone music (in the book it's harmonica) coming from one of their neighbors. While searching for the source, they go on an aural journey, hearing diverse voices and sounds behind every door. Since there's not a lot of plot, director/choreographer Joanna Greer cleverly incorporates dance interludes that are meant to communicate what the boys are feeling: fear, adventure and excitement all rolled into one. It's a bit Dance Moms at times but it gives the ensemble a chance to show off their moves and enhances the slight story. The lighting design, full of dark blues, greens and black, is reminiscent of the book's rich illustrations.
