Over 160 opera companies, schools and organizations across North America will celebrate the sixth annual NATIONAL OPERA WEEK from today, October 24 through Sunday, November 2, 2014, with opera activities and announcements in their communities. National Opera Week is coordinated by OPERA America, the national service organization for opera.

The 15th anniversary season of the Midtown International Theatre Festival continued with the opening of the Commercial Division, Monday, March 31, 2014, at The Barrow Group's TBG Theatre with a get-together featuring excerpts from a repertory of plays and musicals whose production values are designed for Off-Broadway, a regional theatre run ... or better. Each show gave the enthusiastic audience 25 minutes of material starting with a stunning star turn by the talented Capathia Jenkins as Hattie McDaniel in Joan Ross Sorkin's Understanding Mammy.

Classic Stage Company, under the leadership of Artistic Director Brian Kulick and Executive Director Greg Reiner, will present a private reading of a new musical comedy A DOCTOR IN SPITE OF HIMSELF by Sheldon Harnick, based on Molière's LE MEDECIN MALGRE LUI, today, February 1 at MTC Studios. The musical features a score by Harnick, as well as English Adaptation and Additional Dialogue. The reading will be directed by David Glenn Armstrong, with musical direction by Amanda Morton. The cast will feature Ben Davis, Beth Fowler, David Garrison, Cady Huffman, Charles Kimbrough, Jose Llana, Patrick Richwood, Robb Sapp and Elena Shaddow.
