Arena Stage at the Mead Center for American Theater announces the full company for Charles Randolph-Wright's world premiere drama Love in Afghanistan. Randolph-Wright, a Resident Playwright through Arena Stage's American Voices New Play Institute and director of Motown the Musical currently on Broadway, joins forces with director Lucie Tiberghien (MCC Theater's Don't Go Gentle) to bring to life the tale of two fantastically different people discovering love in the most unlikely of places: war-torn Afghanistan. One, an emerging hip-hop artist, the other, a high-level Afghan interpreter, both fight to navigate the pitfalls of romance, religious differences and political unrest. Love in Afghanistan runs tonight, October 11-November 17, 2013 in the Arlene and Robert Kogod Cradle.
On Monday, October 7th, the Screen Actors Guild Foundation raised over $130,000 for its Catastrophic Health Fund and Assistance programs at its inaugural New York Golf Classic at Trump National Golf Club in Westchester, NY. Actor and SAG Foundation Board Member Ron Perlman hosted the first New York tournament benefitting performers facing life-threatening illnesses and severe economic hardship. To kick off its first New York golf tournament, the SAG Foundation held 'The Night Before Event' on Sunday, October 6 at 54 Below in New York City. This exclusive event for 150 friends of the Foundation was also sponsored by Integrated Wealth Management along with Harold Matzner and One America. Guests were brought to their feet by a show-stopping one hour performance of Academy Award-winning and nominated songs by the talented cast of Live it Up Productions including Broadway actress and singer Eden Espinosa. The pop cultural touchstone represented by 1980s classic THE BIG CHILL was revisted this weekend when the majority of the ensemble for the celebrated comedy/drama joined for a reunion, including stage and screen stars Kevin Kline, Glenn Close, Mary Kay Place and more, as well as writer/director Lawrence Kasden.
