The Guthrie Theater today announced complete casting for its production of Jon Robin Baitz's Other Desert Cities. The production will be directed by Peter Rothstein and will feature actors Sally Wingert (Broadway/West End, London: La Bete, Guthrie: Appomattox, Charley's Aunt) as Polly Wyeth, Michelle Barber (Guthrie: Roman Holiday, Caroline, or Change) as Silda Grauman and David Anthony Brinkley (Guthrie: Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, The Scottsboro Boys) as Lyman Wyeth in a contemporary and politically charged dramedy by the acclaimed playwright whose television credits include the compelling dramas "Brothers and Sisters" and "The West Wing."
The Guthrie Theater today announced the full cast and creative team for the Theater's 2012 production of Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol, presented by U.S. Bank. The perennial holiday favorite, now in its 38th year at the Guthrie, will feature a script by British playwright Crispin Whittell and be directed by Joe Chvala. Chvala is the founder and artistic director of the Flying Foot Forum and has previously served as movement director for the production. Longtime Guthrie actor J.C. Cutler will take on the role of grubby miser Ebenezer Scrooge. Cutler has been involved in 30 productions at the Guthrie since 1993, including five productions of A Christmas Carol - appearing as Ebenezer Scrooge (2011), Bob Cratchit (1995, 1997), Banker (1996) and Young Scrooge (1993, 1994) - and was last seen on a Guthrie stage in this past spring's American premiere of Conor McPherson's The Birds.
The Guthrie Theater today announced additional details of its celebration of the multifaceted writer Christopher Hampton, which will inaugurate the theater's 50th season. In addition to the previously announced Tales from Hollywood on the Wurtele Thrust Stage and the world-premiere Appomattox on the McGuire Proscenium Stage, the celebration will also feature a production of Hampton's Embers in the Dowling Studio from October 9-27, 2012, directed by Joe Dowling.

Currently onstage at the Guthrie Theatre in Minneapolis is the period musical spectacular Roman Holiday. Based on the iconic film, the show features the music of Cole Porter, including hits like 'Easy to Love,' 'Begin the Beguine,' 'Ev'ry Time We Say Goodbye' and 'Riding High', in addition to rarely heard gems that fit perfectly into the story. The production began preview performances on June 9 and opens tonight, June 15. The run is scheduled to continue through August 19 on the McGuire Proscenium Stage. Stephanie Rothenberg leads the cast of Roman Holiday as Princess Anne-a radiant young woman in Rome on a widely publicized European tour who sneaks away from her royal duties to explore the city. Rothenberg recently made her Broadway debut stepping into the role of Rosemary in the Tony-nominated revival of How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying. Edward Watts plays Joe Bradley-a handsome, crafty American newspaper reporter who charms the princess. Watts most recently appeared in the long-running production of The Fantasticks in New York City.

The Guthrie Theater, now in previews for the critically acclaimed play Time Stands Still by Donald Margulies, welcomed the Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright to the final rehearsal and first preview last weekend, Friday and Saturday, April 6 and 7. The Guthrie Theater today announced complete casting for Gilbert and Sullivan's H.M.S. Pinafore, which drops anchor on the Wurtele Thrust Stage June 18 - August 28, 2011. Guthrie Artistic Director Joe Dowling helms this splash hit musical which, as previously announced, will feature Twin Cities actor/singers Robert O. Berdahl and Christina Baldwin as Captain Corcoran and Little Buttercup, respectively. Joining the pair will be Constantine Germanacos (Ralph Rackstraw), Seri Johnson (Cousin Hebe), Heather Lindell (Josephine), Jason Simon (Dick Deadeye) and J. Tyler Whitmer (Bob Becket) - all five making their Guthrie debuts - in addition to Robb McKindles (Bill Bobstay) and Peter Thomson (Sir Joseph Porter).
