Ars Lyrica Houston is growing its outreach and education programs to reach and reflect the diverse Houston landscape. Continuing efforts they started before stay-at-home orders effected in March, the organization is creating a new catalogue of offerings with reach beyond the presentation of in-person concerts and programs.

ROCO (River Oaks Chamber Orchestra), immersive theater company Horse Head Theatre Co., and design house Magpies & Peac*cks team up with the Houston Zoo to present PETER AND THE BEAR, an adaptation of Sergei Prokofiev's PETER AND THE WOLF.

Ars Lyrica Houston's A Mid-Winter Night's Dream Gala, honoring Dr. Sippi Khurana and chaired by Stephanie von Stein and Dr. Mark A. Schusterman will take place on Saturday, February 23, 2019 at the modern luxury Hotel Alessandra in downtown Houston. This event supports Ars Lyrica's biennial Baroque opera productions, which begin this fall with Handel's Agrippina at the Hobby Center on November 16 and 18. The February gala begins at 6:30 pm with cocktails and hors d'oeuvres and continues with a spirited musical performance by mezzo-soprano Cecilia Duarte, lutenist Aresh Noori, and percussionist Jesus Pacheco, with remarks by Artistic Director Matthew Dirst. The Hotel Alessandra's continental European cuisine restaurant Lucienne will serve dinner on a wintry whimsical theme. This glamourous evening concludes with an upbeat 'after-party' with dancing and drinks. Expect surprises around every corner!

Yesterday, September 21, Bernadette Peters and company members from West Side Story recorded numbers for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS annual Carols for a Cure Album, which features Broadway casts performing holiday standards in the style of their musical's numbers. The new Broadway cast album of 'West Side Story' has picked up the 2010 Grammy for Best Musical Show Album. The announcement was made during the Grammy Awards' pre-telecast ceremony held at the Los Angeles Convention Center on Sunday, January 31. The creative team behind the 'West Side Story' new Broadway cast album is Leonard Bernstein, composer; Stephen Sondheim, lyricist. David Caddick & David Lai produced the album which was released by Masterworks Broadway.

The producers of WEST SIDE STORY are proud to announce that 2009 Tony Award winner Karen Olivo and 2009 Tony Award nominee Josefina Scaglione have both renewed their contracts with the show to continue with WEST SIDE STORY into 2010.
