Rehearsals just began for the Playwrights Horizons New York premiere production of Bootycandy, a new play written and directed by Obie Award winner Robert O'Hara (director of In the Continuum, author of Antebellum and Insurrection: Holding History). The production will begin previews Friday evening, August 22 at 8PM with an Opening Night set for Wednesday, September 10 at 7PM. The limited engagement will play through Sunday evening, October 12 at Playwrights Horizons' Mainstage Theater (416 West 42nd Street). The Arden Theatre is known for doing shows that make audiences think well after the show is over. Their latest production STICK FLY is no exception to this. This play will make you laugh, tear up with emotion, and encourage a discussion after the play is over. This, in my opinion, is a perfect theatrical experience. The characters in STICK FLY discuss issues such as class and race, but there are also plenty of laughs throughout the play.

The Baltimore Premiere of Clybourne Park begins previews April 10, and the World Premiere of CENTERSTAGE Artistic Director Kwame Kwei-Armah's Beneatha's Place begins May 8.
This spring CENTERSTAGE presents two landmark plays, each a response to the legacy of Lorraine Hansberry's A Raisin in the Sun: the Baltimore Premiere of the award-winning Clybourne Park by Bruce Norris, and the World Premiere of CENTERSTAGE Artistic Director Kwame Kwei-Armah's Beneatha's Place. The two plays will be produced in rotating repertory as The Raisin Cycle, using a single company of actors and a shared design team, under the direction of Derrick Sanders.
Strong acting and equally impressive presentation elements make this production one that I'd recommend for the discerning theatregoer.
The Folger Theatre continues its 2012/13 season with the Washington premiere of The Conference of the Birds, a theatrical adventure based on the poignant 12th-century Persian fable by Farid Uddi Attar about the search for the divine and the quest for truth. Beginning performances on October 23, the production is directed by two-time Helen Hayes Award-winner Aaron Posner (Cyrano, Macbeth at Folger) and will feature original music composed and performed by renowned musician and Helen Hayes Award-winner Tom Teasley.
