John Rando's fast and furious revival is done in the style of the famed Warner Brothers animator.

The new Broadway revival of ON THE TOWN, directed by John Rando (Tony Award for Urinetown) and choreographed by Joshua Bergasse (Emmy Award winner for 'Smash') officially opens tonight, October 16, 2014 at Broadway's Lyric Theatre (213 W 42nd St, New York, NY 10036).

The National Tour of the Tony, Grammy and Olivier Award-winning hit musical JERSEY BOYS, the story of Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons, will welcome Drew Seeley (Bob Gaudio) and Keith Hines (Nick Massi) beginning October 21 in San Diego, CA.

Manhattan Theatre Club will present LOST LAKE, by Tony and Pulitzer Prize winner David Auburn (Proof, The Columnist), directed by Tony Award winner Daniel Sullivan (Proof, Rabbit Hole, The Country House) and starring Oscar nominee John Hawkes (The Sessions, Winter's Bone) and Tracie Thoms (Rent, 'Cold Case'), at New York City Center - Stage I (131 West 55th Street), October 21 through December 21, 2014.

Jersey Boys, called a jukebox musical, is an uber well-structured, Tony Award-winning show presented in a documentary-like format. It tells the true story of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, retaining most of their original musical hits. There are lots of laughs, great rock and roll music and a realistic look at how the group got started in 1963, the difficulties they faced in staying together, their eventual breakup and ultimate survival. Director Clint Eastwood kept pretty close to the book of the show in his recent film adaptation, and the musical score, generated by its lead actors along with some tracks of the real Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, is dynamite. The show has played world wide and now returns on tour to the Pantages for 3 weeks only. Judging by its reception opening night, Jersey Boys keeps on captivating its audiences, young and old. This cast under the original direction of Des McAnuff is every bit as supreme as the original including the first national tour.

One of the wonderful things about live theater is that each audience member's experience is different. For me, a favorite aspect of live theater is its ability to suspend disbelief and to transport the audience to the world being presented onstage. When it's done well, immersion into the story-telling and production can make the audience forget, at least for a moment, that they are watching a bunch of actors in a play. The experience envelopes them, and before long the audience is crying and laughing along with the characters on the stage.
