There have been any number of renowned re-imaginings of Shakespeare. But, easily one of the finest to have been conceived is the musical adaptation of Romeo and Juliet, WEST SIDE STORY. One thing that makes it so special is the way that Leonard Bernstein's dramatic orchestral score meshes so perfectly with Stephen Sondheim's lyrical contributions, and how Arthur Laurent's clever book replaces the feuding families of the original work with rival gangs of different races. And, there no denying the ground-breaking choreography and direction that Jerome Robbins brought to the table. The combination of acrobatics, ballet, and modern dance requires exceptional athleticism. Thankfully, the current production playing the Fox Theatre is an exciting and thoroughly entertaining version that's brought to life by an exuberant and talented cast.

Obie Award-winning playwright/performer David Drake makes his long-awaited return to New York with the premiere of MY TAWNY VALENTINE.

On February 16, 2012, Orchestra of St. Luke's (OSL) will welcome back its first music director, the visionary Sir Roger Norrington, in Haydn's Symphony No. 39 in G minor and Mozart's Symphony No. 39 in E-flat Major. Hailed by The New York Times as 'a pianist you want to hear no matter what he performs,' Jeremy Denk will make his OSL debut in Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 1 in C Major.

New York City's Drama Desk-nominated Parallel Exit returns to the Joyce SoHo for the third time, to present the world premiere of I LOVE BOB, an evening-length comic ballet, from July 20-29, 2012 at 7:30pm at Joyce SoHo, 155 Mercer Street (between Houston & Prince). Obie Award-winning playwright/performer David Drake (The Night Larry Kramer Kissed Me) makes his long-awaited return to New York with the premiere of MY TAWNY VALENTINE. Written by and starring Drake, this drag tragicomedy with music is directed by Robert La Fosse (Tony Award nominee for Jerome Robbins' Broadway) featuring musical direction by Lance Cruce (Joan River's longtime pianist, Karen Finley's Make Love), original music by Trevor Kuprel, and video by Ned Stresen Reuter. Performances begin February 17th at The Laurie Beechman Theatre.

KEIGWIN + COMPANY (K+C) returns to the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. on March 2-3, 2012 at 8pm.

Today in 1980, the first Broadway revival of WEST SIDE STORY opened at the Minskoff Theatre, where it ran for 333 performances. West Side Story is an American musical with a book by Arthur Laurents, music by Leonard Bernstein, lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, and conception and choreography by Jerome Robbins. It was inspired by William Shakespeare's play Romeo and Juliet. Set in New York City in the mid-1950s, the musical explores the rivalry between the Jets and the Sharks, two teenage street gangs of different ethnic backgrounds. Bernstein's score for the musical has become extremely popular; it includes 'Something's Coming', 'Maria', 'America', 'Somewhere', 'Tonight', 'Jet Song', 'I Feel Pretty', 'A Boy Like That', 'One Hand, One Heart', 'Gee, Officer Krupke' and 'Cool'.

Larry Keigwin (Artistic Director) is a native New Yorker and graduate from Hofstra University, where he received a BA in Dance. He founded KEIGWIN + COMPANY in 2003 and as Artistic Director, Keigwin has led the company as it has performed at theaters and dance festivals throughout New York City and across the country.

The tour of the smash hit Broadway revival of WEST SIDE STORY is coming to Milwaukee and is presented by Broadway Across America-Milwaukee and the Marcus Center as part of the Time Warner Cable Broadway at the Marcus Center Series. WEST SIDE STORY will open at the Marcus Center on April 10-15. Tony Award-winning librettist Arthur Laurents' Broadway direction will be recreated for the tour by David Saint, the Associate Director on Broadway.
