The Off-Broadway cast recording of the new Bock and Harnick musical, Rothschild & Sons, an intimate reimagining of the Tony nominated musical The Rothschilds, will be recorded and released by JAY Records.  Produced by John Yap, the recording will feature the original cast of The York Theatre Company production who will gather at The Avatar Studios on Monday, October 26, 2015 to lay down the tracks for the recording scheduled for release on JAY Records in early January.  Executive Producers are John Yap and Arnold Mittelman.

First of all, there is the score. Jerome Kern and Oscar Hammerstein II composed an operatic masterpiece with legitimate melodies and glorious orchestrations. Listening to the score brings one back to a time when singers were sang without the luxury of a microphone and where the action alternated between comedy and tragedy, without being maudlin.

Westchester Broadway Theatre presents SHOW BOAT, with music by Jerome Kern and book & lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II, directed and choreographed by Richard Stafford, with musical direction by Ryan Wise, now through November 29, 2015 and December 30, 2015 - January 31, 2016. Frank Hamilton, co-founder of the Old Town School of Folk Music and Bill Rappaport, former 2nd chair clarinetist for the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra put together a night of swing/jazz tunes from the Great American Songbook. Classic tunes from the likes of Cole Porter, George Gershwin, Johnny Mercer, and Jerome Kern take on a jazzy style with Frank playing acoustic guitar and Bill playing clarinet.

The British import I FOUND MY HORN was originally scheduled for this presentation slot.  However, due to scheduling issues across the pond, I FOUND MY HORN will now appear in the spring slot at the Royal George Theatre.

Arizona Theatre Company brings Berlin's story to vibrant, toe-tapping life in Hershey Felder as Irving Berlin, Oct. 8-25 at the Herberger Theater Center, 222 E. Monroe in Phoenix.

On Friday, October 9, noted orchestrator and conductor Fred Barton will bring the music of Broadway and the American Songbook to the Schimmel Center at Pace University, in American Showstoppers: An Evening of Johnny Mercer. In his seventh concert at Pace, Fred Barton now brings the power of Mercer's music and lyrics front and center, with a 14-piece orchestra and a cast of 16 Broadway singers and dancers, with direction and choreography by Scott Thompson. The cast is headlined by Damon Kirsch, Tony nominee Lee Roy Reams, two time Tony nominee Vivian Reed, Nick Spangler, Tony Nominee Lauren Worsham, and Tony Award winner Karen Ziemba. The cast also features Jesse Luttrell, Sean McGibbon and Molly Pope.

There are many gifted vocalists in this world (more about that later) and many gifted vocalists with charming personalities, but the sheer volume of gift and charm packed into the diminutive Kristin Chenoweth is a wonder to behold. She can sing, my word, can she sing, but when she is on stage, as last night at Wolf Trap, what particularly strikes you is her openness, sincerity and ease with herself and her audience.
