The Broadway Dreams Foundation returned to Omaha this summer to present their acclaimed Summer Performing Arts Intensive, a week long performance workshop, Tuesday, July 20 through Sunday, July 25, 2010. Attendees of the week-long BDF Summer Performing Arts Intensive received first-rate training in acting, dance and vocal performance daily from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. by savvy Broadway veterans who shared their invaluable insider knowledge on the skills needed to make it in show business. Students also learned how to improve their audition skills (song selections and cold readings) and attended classes geared toward college and career planning (headshots and resumes). At week's end, all participants had the opportunity to perform alongside their Broadway idols in a 'one night only' concert event held on Saturday, July 24 at the Holland Performing Arts Center. Students auditioned for top NYC casting director Craig Burns (Telsey + Company) for vocal placement within the program. BroadwayWorld brings you special coverage of this concert below!

Previews will begin today at Virginia's Signature Theatre for the world premiere musical Sycamore Trees written by Ricky Ian Gordon, the award-winning composer of the opera The Grapes of Wrath and the musicals Dream True and My Life with Albertine. A starry Broadway cast portrays Gordon's own family story - complete with a tough Bronx-born father and former 'Borscht Belt' singer/comedian mother - in a tale of two generations' struggles and triumphs in the decades from World War II through the 1990s.
